Chapter 1

I walk inside the cafe, ordering my coffee before finding a place to sit. My coffee comes shortly after and I thank the waitress. Taking my first sip, the nerves start to kick in. 

I can do this, I slowly breathe out repeatedly 

I hear the door jingle open, causing the small bell to ring. My eyes snapping towards the entry door, I see my best friend step in with her soft smile, glowing. She spots me and waves before getting in line to order her coffee. 

I start to feel hot in this cold tiny cafe, my palms sweating. She's your best friend, she has to understand. If she doesn't, I don't know what to do. It's too late, I've made up my mind and I can't go back. I don't think my brain could survive another round of this battle.

My eyes stay glued to Jackie as she comes to the table I selected for us. Standing up quickly, I hug her tightly.

"Hi" I softly smile breathing in her calming scent

"Hey, how are you feeling? You sounded drained earlier when you called and you certainly look it"She half chuckles sadly sitting down across from me

"Thanks,"I sigh jokingly, sitting back down "Honestly, things are rough. Lizzy needs more money for her books. I don't have any extra cash laying around because of the bills. The next semester is coming up and the scholarship wasn't for the last few semesters"I worry "How am I supposed to take care of Lizzy and the bills as well as maintaining her needs for college?"

"Girl, I told you many many times, we would help you. With us not doing another round of IVF right now, we could help with Lizzy. She's like my little sister too Noel"She smiles sweetly

"I love you for that because I know you would help in a heartbeat. We owe you so much for our late bills, I couldn't borrow from you again." I slowly let a tear fall before wiping it away "That's your family building money, I could never take that. Or repay it back in time"

"Noel I have money, you don't have to pay me back" Jackie chuckles grabbing my hand

The waitress from earlier brings Jackie her order before walking back, Jackie holds it close to her as she listens to me. 

"Jackie, you know I couldn't live with myself if I didn't pay that back"I say quietly, before smiling softly "I actually wanted to talk to you because I found a way to solve my problems. Look at this, I did some research and it's fast cash for a low risk"I show her my saved folder full of information on my phone

She takes my phone scrolling through it with wide eyes, before looking back at me, repeating the action a couple of times "Noel, you can't be serious. A surrogate donor?!"She whispers yells

"Jackie, I am serious. I've done my research, played with the idea for weeks now. People who really want a family are in need, willing to pay a whole lot to have someone help them out"I explain "I could pay off Lizzy's schooling, pay for her new books, catch up on bills and even pay you back bill money. Working two part jobs on top of babysitting on hours I'm not working is breaking me apart. I can't do it, I'm tired and it is never enough"

"Ruining your body isn't the answer for a baby that won't even be yours"She spoke softly

"Ruining my body? It's a gift of life and changing your body is just a process of that. Jackie, you know that more than anyone"

"That's not what I meant Noel, you are going to experience big changes. All for a child that won't be yours in the end. You will be left with the aftermath for what? A couple grand?  I-I can't see you doing this"

Tears of frustration form, "I didn't ask for your permission. I want your support Jackie, I've already been through this battle of will I or won't I"I speak upset
