Weeks passed and you hadn't heard from Kino.
Two to be exact.
Not like you were counting.
You didn't text him first as he said he would message you.
But here you were, 2 weeks of silence and low-level anxiety.
What could you have done that was so awful to make him stop speaking to you entirely?
Every night you wrote out a long message saying you were sorry for whatever you had done and you wanted to speak to him.
Every night you erased it before you could send it.
You wished you could say that you missed his presence with every waking moment, the silence knawing at you.
But that wasn't the case.
There had been so much work to do for University that you had barely managed to squeeze in your nightly routine of fretting and regretting.
Your days were a blur of practice exams, studying until your eyes hurt and endless cups of coffee.
Lucy had been equally busy if not more so.
You still had no idea how she managed to fit all her extracurricular activities and societies in with her course, it was a true mystery.
Standing in the kitchen you stirred your drink. It had gone cold ages ago but you hadn't the energy to pour it away.
Glancing at your phone you notice the time - 1:36am.
You should sleep soon but there was a something about the calmness of this time of night that made you continue standing, swirling your mug and staring out of the small window.
It was lightly raining.
You loved this kind of weather.
Sighing you decide it's time to finally pour away the dregs in your mug and head to bed.
As you begin washing up you hear a faint ping.
You turn off the tap so fast you thought it would fly off.
Slowly, so not to spook the message away, you pick up and unlock your phone.
1:40
Hey, sorry about not messaging
these last couple of weeks have been mad
Let's chat about it over coffee? You read the words over again and again.
That's a weird way for Lucy to be texting.
She's normally far more casual.
Confused, you send a quick message back.
1:41
Hey, don't worry about it
Coffee sounds great!
Are you okay?1:42
Yeah I'm just tired
I have a lot to explain
Shall we go to our usual place?
2pm okay?1:43
Lucy you're scaring me
What's going on?1:44
It's too hard to explain over text
It's easier if I say it in person1:44
Okay, 2pm at the usual place
Hope you're okay xxxYou lock your phone and lean on the kitchen counter.
You had no idea what Lucy could be talking about.
