My phone blaring at 4 in the morning, is not how I wanted to wake up. But yet here I was, answering Sam Uleys phone call.
"It's four in the fucking morning, what do you want." I growl into the phone.
"Jacob shifted last night, you need to come to Billy's." I hang up the phone and slip into a pair of shorts, a hoodie, and a pair of sneakers. I grab the motorcycle keys off the dresser, and quickly run outside. I climb onto the bike, and it roars to life when I put the key inside. I take off and the motor burns my legs, but I don't mind. The only thing on my mind is Jacob. I can only imagine how much pain he's in. I was in so much pain the first time I shifted, I can only imagine how bad his will be. It takes me about ten minutes to get to the Black residence. I shut off the bike, and put its stand out. I rush into the house and find Billy sitting in the kitchen.
"Where is he?"
"He's out with Sam. He eventually calmed down, and shifted back. Sams explaining everything to him now." Billy tells me.
"What triggered it?"
"He was out with Bella, the girl you found in the woods, and I guess something happened. I don't know specifics." The thought of them together runs through my head, and anger suddenly fills me. My hands clench into fists and the table shakes as I put them down on it. "Sorry." Billy mutters. The sound of Sams voice takes my eyes away from Billy to outside. He and the boys are walking towards the house. I run out of the kitchen and outside, onto the ramp. I look at the boys all coming and see Jacob standing beside Sam. His hair has been cut off, and his shirt is off. He hasn't looked at me yet, but Paul has. He sees me standing there and runs towards me.
"You have to get out of here Artemis." He murmurs.
"Why?"
"He can't handle it. Not yet at least." Paul fishes the keys out of my pocket and pushes me towards the bike. "I'm taking you home." I stumble forward into a tree.
"Asshole." I mutter under my breath. "I think I'll just run home." Paul grabs my arm as I turn away from him. A vision of my father flashes through my mind.
"No, Artemis." I rip my arm from his grip. The almost faded bruise on my eye starts to sting. He grabs my arm again.
"Get your hands off me Paul."
"Paul!" Sams voice makes Paul take his eyes off me and look towards Sam. "Let her go." Paul looks at me, and can see the fear in my eyes. He stumbles backwards.
"I'm sorry Artemis I-" I cut him off.
"It's fine Paul." The rest of the boys have reached us by now, and are watching us. "I'll meet you at home." I back away from the boys and start to walk away before Embry gets in my way. "Move Embry." He shakes his head and I groan. I try to go left, but he follows me.
"Artemis, we need your help with something." I turn around to face Sam.
"I think you can handle it." I bite out.
"You said you would help whenever I asked for it, and I am." I roll my eyes.
"What is it Sam?"
"Bloodsucker, red hair. We need your help killing her." Sam tells me. I glance at Jacob, who is looking at his feet.
"Let's go." I take off towards the woods, not bothering to shift. The boys all shift and Paul stops beside me. I climb onto his back and we take off. The wind blows my hair away from my face and I badly want to tie it back, but I can't let go of Paul.
After about ten minutes of scanning the woods, we find the red head jumping trees. She catches our scent, and she takes off north. The boys keep up with her. Paul gets close enough for me to jump onto one of the trees, and I take my chance.
I stand on Paul's back and leap to a tree. My nails dig into the tree, and I start to climb it. I reach a branch and slowly inch my way way onto it, before jumping to the next tree. I get the hang of it, and eventually I'm caught up with her. I get close enough to grab her red hair, and I yank back on it. Both of us go backwards, hitting branches on our way down. I can feel blood oozing out of my cuts now, and the red head gets a whiff of it. She snarls, and tries to sink her teeth into me. I back out of the way just in time to see a brown wolf, just like my own, take her out. She manages to get out of the wolves grip, and takes off farther north.
Paul shifts back and comes running towards me.
"Artemis! Fuck, lets get her back to Billy's!" Paul scoops me up in his arms and stands up. By now the rest of the boys have shifted back.
"Paul, take me home." I murmur into his chest.
"No Artemis. These cuts are bad, like really bad." Paul tells me.
"I've dealt with worse, I can stitch myself back up." Paul nods and turns towards the Sam.
"I'm gonna take her home -" Paul doesn't even finish his sentence, before growling is heard. We all look to the source, which is Jacob Black. He's staring at my cut up body, which is in Paul's arms.
"Paul put me down." I whisper. Paul sets me on the ground, careful not to injure me any more. Jacob stops growling and comes over to me.
"Why didn't you tell me?" He asks. I look up at him.
"I couldn't." He nods his head. Two arms wrap themselves around my legs and under my arms. "What are you doing?" I squeal.
"Taking you home obviously." He states, like it was the most obvious thing ever. I nod my head and we walk in silence back to Billy's. Jacob takes me to his father's truck, and carefully sets me inside. "I'm gonna go grab the keys." He takes off into the house and I sigh in relief.
Finally he knows, and I don't have to deal with the pain of being away from him any longer. He comes back out of the house and gets in the truck. It revs to life and we take off down the dirt path.
"How long did you know?" Jacob asks me.
"Since the day I found Bella in the woods." I tell him. "I obviously couldn't say anything because you hadn't shifted yet, but I had a feeling it would be soon." I explain. He nods, and continues asking questions.
"Why do you live with Paul, if you don't mind me asking."
"Jesse has full custody of me, because his brother is a dick head." Jacob nods and puts his hand on my knee.
"Well I'm glad you're here." I give him a small smile as we pull into my driveway. Jacob jumps out of the truck, and helps me out.
"Just take me down to my room, it's in the basement." He nods and we head into the house. After a few more directions, we are finally in my room. "There's a first aid kit in the bathroom." He sets me on my bed, and goes into my bathroom. Minutes later, Jacob reappears with the first aid kit in hand. I murmur a thank you, and graciously take it out of his hands. I take the gausse out, and the hydrogen peroxide. I gently apply the peroxide to my cuts, then put the gausse on them. Jacob stares at me the entire time.
"How do you know how to do all this?" He asks me curiously.
"Well I wanted to be a medical student, so I studied some things. Plus practice makes perfect." I explain to him. "Well I should be getting to bed." He nods and gets to his feet.
"I will see you tomorrow?" I nod my head and he smiles. "Bye."
"Bye."
