"Artemis I can't believe it's your last day here." Stella whines as I pack my suitcase. "I know, I feel like I've been here for months." Two weeks ago I left La Push and came to Warm Springs. I got tons of information about Leah and I, since most of the wolves here are female. Every single day I feel the pain of being away from Jacob, we still talk to each other everyday but it's not the same. Today is my last day here, and I'll be driving back to La Push. I zip up my suitcase, and Stella grabs my other bag. We take them out of Stella's house, which is where I've been staying, and put them in the bed of the truck. I grab a tarp and strap it down, so none of my things get wet if it rains. "Moms making lunch for us all before you leave." Stella tells me as she closes the bed. "I guess we should head over there now." She nods her head and we walk side by side to the packs meeting hall. The whole pack lives in the same area, and they have a small meeting hall. The whole pack was very welcoming, and they were all glad to help me in anyway they could. The pack is very small, there's only about fifteen members. But they are all very close with each other, and they make the pack seem like it's bigger. The walk over to the meeting hall was short, and it's bustling with noise when we walk in. When everyone sees Stella and I walk in, they start to pound their cups on the table in a steady beat. It was a tradition I learned, that they saved for any family of the Alpha, which Stella is the Alphas daughter. I sit down beside Lily, which is Stella's mother, and Stella sits across from me. The pounding stops and Lily rises. My eyes follow her up. "We are here today to celebrate our new friend Artemis. Today is her last day before she travels back home to La Push. And we have a request of you." She looks to me, as does everyone else. "We reached a unanimous decision last night. We want you, Artemis Lahote, to be our new Alpha! You have shown such amazing strength, and I know that you will do this pack wonders after I pass on. So what do you say?" I cast my eyes down to my hands, thinking. "I'm leaving though. I cant stay here." Lily smiles. "You don't have to be here to be Alpha. I mean you'd have to come if there was a problem of course, but you can stay in La Push. You will appoint someone as your Beta, and they will control things till you return." Lily explains. "It would obviously be Stella." She shoots me a sly grin. "So is that a yes?" Stella asks. I grin. "I would love to." Everyone cheers and the pounding starts again. Lily sits down, and everyone starts to pass around food. "Thank you so much for this Lily." She grins at me. "You honestly deserve it. I'm surprised you actually said yes." "Well I can't really say no to something like this." *** After dinner I had signed a few papers, and they sent me on my way. In a few weeks, a few girls will move to La Push to stay with me. I reached Seattle when it started to storm. Jacob was on the phone with me and he told me to stop at a hotel, he didn't want me to drive through the storm. A small restaurant comes into view and I pull into the parking lot. I haven't eaten in four hours, and I'm starving. I shut the truck off, and tell Jacob I'll call him later. I get out of the truck and start to run to the restaurant. Rain pelts me as I run. Why did I have to park in the far back? The smell of vampire fills my nose, and I stop. I turn around just in time to see someone swing at me. I duck, and jab the person in the stomach. They bend over, and I wrap my arms around their neck. I start to pull on their head, and the sound of cracking can be heard. Someone jumps on my back, and the feeling of teeth going into my neck takes over my body. All I can feel is burning. It feels like my veins are on fire. My legs give out and I fall to onto the pavement. Laughter fills my ears, and I can tell it's the two vampires who just attacked me. They speed off, leaving me here to die. I scream at the top of my lungs, yet no one hears me. Maybe I'm not screaming, maybe I'm imagining it. I cant feel anything, so maybe I can't even scream. I'm gonna die here. I hope Jacob knows how much I love him. I hope he knows that I want him to have the world. He won't survive without me, I know he won't. I cant let him die too, which is what will happen if I die. I have to fight this. Artemis fight this. "Artemis! Oh my god. Carlisle!" I turn my head to the side and see Alice crouching over me. "She's trying to fight it. We have to get her back to the house." I feel an arm slide under my legs and one behind my back. Tears stream down my face. The burning gets worse. "Alice." I mumble. The vampire looks at me with sympathy. "If I don't make it, you need to tell Jacob that I love him." She nods her head with a smile. "He already knows that." "Just please." She purses her lips and nods. I close my eyes and we take off.
