I couldn't look away.
His eyes, wide and almost boyish in their innocence, were such a stark contrast to the lazy smirk pulling at his lips. A silver hoop glinted on the corner of his mouth, matching the earrings dangling from his ears. His dark hair was neatly tucked behind them, framed by a black baseball cap that sat low on his forehead.
I swallowed hard, my gaze dipping to the glimpse of collarbone peeking out from the first few undone buttons of his fitted black shirt. The sleeves were rolled up just enough to showcase the intricate tattoos along his forearms, and the shirt tucked into slim black jeans gave him a sleek, put-together look that still managed to scream trouble.
And just like that, the rag slipped from my hand.
I forced myself to breathe. Just breathe.
"How did you find me?" My question came out sharper than I meant, but the pounding in my chest made it hard to keep calm.
Jungkook didn't flinch. If anything, his smirk deepened, and he casually leaned forward, bracing his tattooed arm against the polished glass of the display case.
"Well, nice to see you again too," he teased, barely holding back a chuckle.
I grabbed the rag off the counter and snapped it toward his arm, making him pull back with a scoff.
"Is this how you treat all your customers? If I were your manager, I'd fire you on the spot." He raised his hands in mock surrender when I snapped the rag at him again. "Okay, okay! I'm kidding. Relax."
I folded my arms across my chest. "How. Did. You. Find me?"
Jungkook tilted his head like the question amused him. "Maybe I have mystical powers."
I rolled my eyes. "This isn't that kind of story."
"Huh?"
"Never mind."
His grin widened at the small smile I failed to suppress. Apparently, that was all the permission he needed to stick around.
"Honestly, it wasn't that hard. When someone of my status wants to find someone, it gets done."
"Your status?" I let out a quick laugh, already annoyed. "I thought Mr. Stranger hated his status."
"Fair enough." He nodded thoughtfully. "But can I at least be Mr. Handsome Stranger?"
"Not a chance."
"Worldwide Handsome?"
I scrunched my nose. "There's definitely someone out there who deserves that title more than you."
He clutched his chest dramatically, groaning like I'd mortally wounded him. "Ouch. That was brutal."
"Are you going to order something, or are you just here to test my patience? Because technically, we're supposed to be closed."
He tapped his chin, pretending to think. "Hmm... I'm not sure."
"Then get out."
His hands clapped together suddenly, the sound making me flinch. "Alright! You sold me. I'll eat."
I watched as he leaned over the display case, studying the pastries like they held the answers to life's greatest mysteries. He rubbed his bottom lip thoughtfully, and I had to force myself to focus on the glass I had just cleaned instead of the way his shirt stretched across his chest as he bent down.
"I'll take the red velvet cupcake," he said, pointing at it without smudging the glass.
"You know red velvet is just chocolate, right?" I grabbed a glove and retrieved the cupcake, setting it neatly on a napkin.
