"Trust me, you look beautiful."
Jungkook's words did little to ease the tightness in my chest as the limousine rolled to a smooth stop in front of the banquet hall. My hands trembled as I smoothed over the delicate fabric of my gown, trying to quell the rising panic constricting my throat. This wasn't just another night out—it was the night. A high-society event teeming with the country's most powerful figures, and I was walking in as his date.
The world outside the tinted windows was already blinding with camera flashes. This was the moment everyone had been waiting for—Senator Jeon's son, Lègende Gold heir, finally stepping out with a woman no one knew. Whispers would ripple through the elite tonight, rumors spinning before I even crossed the threshold. Who was I? Where did I come from? Was I a passing fling, or something far more scandalous?
My gown, carefully chosen yet still feeling like too much, was a masterpiece of design—an ethereal creation of silk and tulle in the deepest shade of midnight, its fitted bodice adorned with intricate beading that shimmered like constellations beneath the light. The skirt, layers of sheer fabric cascading in perfect folds, trailed behind me with regal elegance, every inch of it whispering wealth and exclusivity. It was the kind of dress that demanded attention, whether I wanted it or not.
Jungkook shifted beside me, adjusting the cuff of his perfectly tailored Lègende Gold tuxedo. The inky black fabric hugged his broad shoulders and tapered at his waist like a second skin, the subtle sheen of the material catching the low limousine lights. His rings glinted against his fingers and the dark ink etched there. Tonight, his silver lip ring was absent, replaced by an air of refined composure, his layered hair styled just enough to frame his face in a way that made him look effortlessly powerful.
I could feel his gaze on me before he spoke again.
"You're overthinking." His voice was calm, but his fingers found mine, lacing them together. "Breathe, Princess."
I tried, inhaling deeply through my nose. It did little to calm the storm inside me.
Jungkook smirked, tilting his head. "If it helps, just remember to stay calm and try not to have a nip slip—"
I smacked his arm, groaning. "Oh my God, Jungkook—"
He laughed, unbothered, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Just trying to lighten the mood."
"You're the worst," I muttered, throwing my head back against the leather seat. "Maybe we should just stay here. Let everyone go inside first."
Jungkook huffed out a soft laugh, shaking his head. "It's a little too late for that, my love."
A shadow approached the limo. The door opened.
The flashes were instantaneous. A sea of white bursts, a cacophony of voices shouting over each other.
Jungkook stepped out first, his grip on my hand firm as he turned back to me. One last squeeze, one last moment of solace before we entered the storm. He leaned in, brushing a soft kiss against my lips. "I won't leave your side. I promise."
Then, he led me out.
The world exploded.
The moment my heels touched the pavement, my vision blurred with the relentless strobe of camera flashes. My name wasn't being called—because they didn't know it—but Jungkook's was, over and over, accompanied by questions thrown into the void.
"Jeon, over here!"
"Mr. Jeon, who is your date tonight?"
"Any hints about Lègende Gold's winter collection?"
