"Jin!"
I threw my arms around my best friend's broad shoulders, almost knocking him over in the process.
"Ailene, what the hell are you doing? It's past midnight... and who is this stranger you decided to bring into my home?"
"Stranger again, I see... might as well permanently change my name."
I huffed at Jungkook's annoyed expression and dropped my arms. "Jungkook, I want you to meet the official worldwide handsome."
Jungkook stuck a hand out to shake, sizing up Jin in the process. "Nice to meet you, handsome."
Jin wasn't buying it one bit. He stared down at Jungkook's outstretched hand before staring back at his face with a very unamused expression.
I smirked, knowing this was exactly how Jin would react. He kept his hand in his black sweatpants pocket, refusing to move an inch.
"Wait, where's Tae?" Jin broke their awkward eye contact, completely ignoring Jungkook's introduction, and snapped his eyes to my face.
Jungkook looked down at his hand before giving himself a high five. I barely heard him mutter "nice to meet you too, asshole" under his breath.
"I... don't wanna talk about it right now," I sighed and, without warning, pushed past Jin.
"Huh? Then why'd you even—Ah—Excuse me! Did I say you could come in?!"
I waved my hand dismissively and fell back on his large charcoal couch, completely ignoring his remark. "You redecorated again?" I asked dully as I looked around at the nicely curated space.
Jin's apartment was a sleek combination of modern and stylish, yet still carried a distinctly boyish charm. The open-concept space had a neutral color palette—cool grays and deep navy tones—that contrasted against the warm glow of accent lighting. A massive sectional couch took up most of the living room, upholstered in charcoal fabric, littered with an assortment of mismatched throw pillows that made it feel lived-in. The walls were adorned with framed vinyl records and a few cartoonish art prints, along with a massive flat-screen TV mounted above a fireplace. To the right, an open kitchen featured black marble countertops and stainless-steel appliances, the island acting as both a dining space and a makeshift workspace. It was an expensive, well-curated space, but there was an undeniable coziness to it—one that screamed Jin.
"I like to redecorate every season, you know that," he sighed as I lifted my head to watch Jin walk into the room with Jungkook trailing awkwardly behind.
"I guess that's what happens when you're in the industry," I tsked and wondered what it would be like if I was born into a well-off family like Jin and Jungkook.
All the K-pop merch I could ever want. I sighed in content at the dream.
"Industry?" Jungkook asked abruptly, and Jin raised a brow.
"Interior design," Jin's curt reply had Jungkook's lips curve upward.
"Ah, I see," Jungkook nodded his head in some sort of approving manner. I rolled my eyes, adjusting the uncomfortable tear-stained shirt clinging to my torso.
"What about you?" Jin asked, arms crossed.
He was trying to feel Jungkook out, considering the only other guy I'd brought to his house was Taehyung.
"Luxury apparel."
Jin nodded as silence fell between the two. I could only look back and forth, seeing how they sized each other up like territorial animals.
