Chapter 5: Getting the Weapon

Rumlow used an attachment to his suit to punch down the door. He knocked out a technician and entered a room with a vial labeled "biohazard."

"Pack it up," Rumlow ordered.

At that time, Steve was behind a pillar, making sure to not get shot. He threw his shield, making it bounce off the soldier and back to Steve. Meanwhile, Wanda used her powers to get the gas out of the building while Sam shot at other soldiers.

Rumlow went outside on the balcony and saw the havoc Steve's team created.

"He's here," Rumlow informed.

That's when Steve noticed the vial missing.

"Rumlow has a biological weapon," Steve said.

Natasha rode on her motorcycle toward the institute.

"I'm on it," Natasha told them over her radio.

She jumped off the motorcycle and it took out a soldier. She took out soldiers through hand-to-hand combat and with her Widow's Bite cuffs. Rumlow then ambushed her from behind and grabs her collar, dragging her onto a car. But she zapped him, even though there wasn't a response.

"I don't work like that no more," Rumlow smirked.

He threw her through the roofhatch of an armored vehicle, dropped in a grenade, and closed off the exit.

"Fire in the hole," Rumlow mocked.

"No!" a mercenary shouted.

Natasha took out the soldiers inside, then used one of them to shield herself from the grenade. The doors exploded and she was thrown out. She coughed, but was in one piece.

Steve ran to the balcony and found Rumlow aiming a mounted grenade launcher. The grenade slammed into Steve's shield and he was thrown back inside. He got to his feet as Rumlow fired at him twice, throwing him out a window, slamming onto a truck, and finally hitting the ground. He struggled to get up until he got his legs under him.

"Sam. He's in an AFV heading north," Steve told Sam.

Inside the AFV, Rumlow secured the biological weapon and handed it to a soldier.

"Take this to the airstrip. We're not gonna outrun them. Lose the truck," Rumlow commanded.

The truck crashed into a nearby structure and Rumlow and the soldiers made their way inside.

"Where are you going to meet us?" the first soldier asked.

"I'm not," Rumlow answered.

Sam landed on the roof of a nearby building. He scanned the area with his goggles.

"I got four, they're splitting up," Sam said.

Natasha rode through the crowd, back on her motorcycle. She left it again and ran across the hoods of cars, in pursuit of Rumlow.

"I got the two on the left," she said.

Steve also ran across cars. He found a vest in the middle of a crowd.

"They ditched their gear. It's a shell game now. One of them has the payload," Steve replied.

Then a bomb was thrown at him. It stuck on his shield, so Steve threw it in the air and the bomb exploded safely away from citizens. Rumlow ambushed Steve, punching him in the back.

"There you are, you son of a bitch. I've been waiting for this! Too bad your sister's not here. I would enjoy this a lot more!" Rumple smirked.

At that time, Sam was still trying to get rid of the other mercenaries. Sam took out his two, then searched their bags for the payload, but it wasn't there.

"He doesn't have it. I'm empty," Sam said.

Natasha continued her chase for the soldiers through the crowd.

"Out of the way!" she yelled at the crowd.

She finally managed to tackle one soldier and fought him off. When the other soldier made it to the scene, she threw a basket at him to distract him. She continued to fight both of them until they pointed their guns at each other. Then one of the soldiers held up the vial.

"Drop it. Or I'll drop this. Drop it!" the first soldier commanded.

"He'll do it!" the second added.

Redwing came out of nowhere and fired at the soldier with the vial. He fell, and with that, Natasha fired at the other soldier, then caught the falling vial.

"Payload secure. Thanks, Sam," she thanked.

"Don't thank me," he said.

"I'm...not thanking that thing," Natasha remarked.

"His name is Redwing," Sam said.

"I'm still not thanking it," she stated.

"He's cute. Go ahead, pet him," Sam chuckled.
