Chapter 31: What About the Others?

Steve flew the Quinjet towards mountains as Bucky sat behind him and Y/N was a little ways away from them.

"What's gonna happen to your friends?" Bucky asked.

Steve sighed and answered, "Whatever it is...I'll deal with it."

Bucky thought about it then told him, "I don't know if I'm worth all this, Steve."

Steve glanced at Bucky then said, "What you did all those years...It wasn't you. You didn't have a choice."

"I know. But I did it," Bucky pointed out.

He looked at Y/N, who wore a look of sadness.

"Hey you," he called, getting her attention, then requested, "Come here."

She obeyed with a hint of smile. He held out his flesh hand and she took it. He gently pulled her to sit beside him and he held her close while she snuggled next to him.

"What's with the sad face?" he asked.

She frowned slightly and answered, "You're worth more to me than my own life. Why do you think you're not?"

Bucky looked at her with a somber expression. She waited for an answer.

Bucky sighed and explained, "Ever since I was experimented on, I felt like there was something that kept me from doing what HYDRA wanted me to do. Back in the war when I saw you being my guardian angel, I realized it was you. In this time when I was forced to hunt you and Steve down, I had dreams of a beautiful woman telling me how much she loved me and that was you too. Now after everything I've done, I'm amazed you still want to be with me. I remember everyone I've killed and who feared me. Why is that something worth fighting for?"

Y/N immediately put her hand on his cheek and kissed him passionately, taking him a little off-guard for a minute until he melted into it. When they parted, she took hold of his metal hand and put it to her heart.

"Because you still have people who care about you, before, during, and after being the Winter Soldier. You still remembered me no matter what they did to you, which made you want to come back and do the right thing. Bucky, you are the best thing to ever happen to me and I wouldn't change our journey for the world. I want to be with you, always and forever," Y/N told him.

He smiled at her words as a tear escaped his eye and trailed down his cheek. She wiped it away with her thumb and kissed his cheek.

"Hey lovebirds. We're getting close," Steve smirked.

They glared teasingly at him.

"You know what, Steve? You got a girl now, so the tables will definitely turn in our favor. But thanks for the update," Y/N said.

Steve immediately shut up, making Bucky laugh.
