Keith went back to his room and checked the clock. It was 2am. They had talked for almost an hour. To his surprise, across the room, Shiro sat up, rubbing his eyes.
"Keith? Why are you up this late?" He said sleepily.
"Does it matter? You're up too." He replied, snarky.
"I guess so. But you were talking to someone in the bathroom weren't you? They were crying."
"Yeah."
"Who was it?"
"I don't know if I should tell you."
"Then just tell me what the problem was, maybe I can help."
"Okay... they had soulmate troubles. Their soulmate and their enemy... are the same person. They want the connection of a soulmate but they don't feel it towards their soulmate because they're also enemies." I said, instantly regretting it. What if Lance found out and hated me again?
"Oh, that's complicated." Shiro sighed.
"Right?"
"But... I know something that might help. Keith, come here."
I went over, and Shiro held his wrists out. There was only one name, and it wasn't Matt.
Adam?
"Who's Adam?" I asked.
"Adam. Adam was my soulmate. I knew it as soon as I met him. I didn't even need to know his full name. We went to Garrison together. We loved each other so much, that when I was offered a place here I almost turned it down to stay with him, but he saw how much I needed it; my relationship with my parents was complicated and boarding school would be perfect for me. So he applied too. He was so smart, we both thought he would get in easily so I accepted the offer. But the day of the entry exam, he just didn't come. He refused to tell me why, and we got into a fight. We broke up before I left to come here. Two years later I still love him, but I also love Matt, even though he's not my soulmate. Tell that person that fate sometimes doesn't go in the direction you expect it to."
"What would you do if you met Adam again?"
"I'd try to be at least friends I guess. Depends if Matt and I are together and what Adam thinks of me. I still love him, but I said some awful things before I left, who knows how he feels about me..."
"We should sleep," I suggested, changing the subject. Too much talk about love today.
"You're right. Goodnight Keith. I hope I was helpful."
"Yeah you were. Night Shiro."
Wow I love my gay space dad and I still feel like it was all a dream and I probably will until s7 actually comes out (pun not initially intended but I'm proud of it)
