So there they were. Jade was driving them to who knows where. They were wandering aimlessly. Jeremiah was looking around, seeming curious about where they were off to. Macy was watching out the window, clearly uninterested in where they were. She started dozing off and was soon asleep.
Macy looked around her. There were tall trees and a small river. She couldn't tell where she was. Then she heard talking from behind her, "You can't run from me forever." Startled she turned around. It was her dad. "Maybe not forever, but as soon as I turn 18 I won't have to run anymore because I don't have to live with you." Her dad chuckled. "You don't understand any of this, do you? I can keep chasing you and chasing you and chasing you. I could chase you down forever." Macy shook her head, "No, no you can't. I can go to the police and tell them everything. Everything from the drinking to the abuse." Her dad looked at her. "Maybe, but you still won't get rid of me. We're related Mace. I'll find my way to you one way or another." Then everything started fading away.
Macy sat straight up, panting and sweating. She looked around her and it was night. Jem had fallen asleep and the car was parked. Jade was sitting in the front looking too worried to sleep. After calming down Mace leaned forward to the front seats. "Hey, can't sleep?" Jade just looked at Macy, then nodded. "Same, I keep thinking that they're going to come find us. I don't want that to happen on my account."
"Macy, don't worry about it. You're family now and I won't let anything happen to you."
"But if you guys get in trouble for helping me and you need to save you and your brother just blame me and I will go with it and take the blame.. I could come up with a story and I-"
"Stop! Just stop.. No one is going to be taken anywhere. You, Jem, and I will make it through this."
"Okay, I trust you. But my offer still stands, no matter what."Macy sat back in her seat and looked out her window at the darkness and started to feel calm. Then she shot up. She saw lights. Red and blue. "Jade drive! I see police lights! They don't have lights because they're going to sneak up on us!" Jade didn't say anything and started the car. We started driving, but a police was on our tail. They caught us.. "Jade stop the car."
"What?! Why?"
"Just stop the car. If you keep driving they're going to turn on their sirens and we're going to be in a lot more trouble then we're already in."
"Ugh fine."Jade stopped the car and the police officer walked up to our window. "Hey, I got a report of a girl being kidnapped. She has brown hair, hazel eyes and goes by the name of Macy Patterson and her birthday is December 13th."
"I'm her, but there's been a misunderstanding. Jade and Jem didn't kidnap me. I came to them and started living with them since my father would drink and then abuse me. Not to mention be gone for days at a time without supervision. I've been neglected by him and abandoned by my mother. Please please please do not take away my only friends. I was the one who ran from my father. Please don't make me go back..."The police man looked from Jade to Jem and me in the back. "I won't arrest your friends or make you go back, but I can't stop your dad from looking for you, okay?" Macy breathed a sigh of relief, "Yes sir, okay. Thank you." He smiled at me, "You're very welcome. Now you all should head on home, it's pretty late." Jade nodded smiling, she seemed relieved.
