Then Jade heard the door slam. She breathed a sigh of relief, assuming Jem was back. She started to go out of Macy's room when she heard an uncomfortably familiar voice. "I don't know where they're holding my daughter, but they kidnapped her." Jade froze. Shoot.. Macy's dad brought in cops.. Great.
Jade came back in and shut Macy's door, locking it. Macy was sitting up in her bed looking at Jade. They could both hear the voices ringing with authority. Macy whispered, "What are we going to do?"
"We need to get out of here."
"Using the door as an escape route is a foiled plan."
"That's true, but do you know how to climb trees?"
"Who doesn't? But why?"Jade nodded her head towards the window. Macy nodded. First she unlocked and opened the window. Then she climbed on the branch near the window. Jade followed her lead and soon they were both safely on the ground. Jade made a motion with her hand as if to say 'follow me.' And Macy did. Jade led them around the side of the house and to the front. They got in her truck when they realised the keys were still inside. "Maybe we should walk?"
"No.. we don't even know where we're going or how long we'll be gone. I need my keys otherwise we might get stuck in the middle of nowhere without any shelter or anything. I need my keys."Macy nodded then looked at the house door. It was still wide open so she got out of the truck and rushed to the house before Jade could stop her. She swung her head inside. The coast was clear, she ran to the counter and grabbed the keys and sprinted back to Jade. She smiled, "Dude, that was awesome! Way to go!"
Jade started driving but as they kept going they saw Jeremy just strolling down the sidewalk like nothing was wrong, which made sense since he didn't know what was happening. Jade brought the truck to a halt and Macy swung the door open. "Get in!! Now!"
Jem realized the seriousness of the situation even though he didn't know the situation. He jumped in the truck without a word. He looked at Macy's face full of worry first, then he looked at Jade's determined expression. "Umm.. should I be asking what happened right now?" Jade answered for Macy. "Long story short? Macy's dad brought in cops. We were in Macy's room. We made a great escape. We picked you up. And we still have no clue what we're going to do. Happy?"
