(Jade's POV)

Jade helped Jem to the couch then went to the kitchen to think of a game plan. Maybe they could get in through the back door or something. Jade knew she'd have to figure out when Macy's dad isn't home. Ughh, planning a rescue is difficult. Then she thought about her and Jem's conversation. Jem could feel whenever Macy hurt herself.

Jade was still pretty surprised by that. But Jem definitely wasn't faking his pain so he was telling the truth.. She knew she had to save Macy. It could very literally kill him if she got hurt too much. She walked into the living room and woke up Jem. "Hey sleepy head, so the sooner the better, right? Why don't we go over and see if her dad is home?" Jem was still discombobulated from his nap so his only response was, "huh?"
"Wait for it." Jade watched as his expression went from to confused to excited.
"We're gonna go bust Mace out?! That's awesome!!! Let's go!!"

Jade laughed at his enthusiasm as he grabbed the keys to her truck and ran out the door. She jogged after him and jumped in the driver's seat. She started the journey to Macy's with a lot of chatting consisting mostly of explaining to Jeremiah that it'd be safer if we attempted to rescue Macy while her dad wasn't there, Jem nodded and agreed, but Jade wasn't sure he'd remember what she said when the time came. The rest of the ride went quickly and quietly until finally they were at Macy's house with no other cars in the driveway.

(Macy's POV)

Macy's dad left the house about an hour ago. She had no clue when he'd be back because he doesn't ever tell her that sort of thing anymore. Not that he did before either.. Macy had been laying on top of her blanket and pillow in her closet again since that's where she spent the majority of her time. She was laying on her stomach and looking at her razor blade debating when she heard walking outside her tiny basement window. She peeked her head out of her closet.

Someone was peering through her window. Macy could have sworn she recognized them. And she probably would be able to, had her window not been as grimy as it is. She decided she'd rather be safe than sorry and hid back in her closet. Finally the footsteps went away. Then there was a knock at the back door. She wouldn't be able to get to it.

Macy got out of her closet realizing that whoever was at her house was there to help her. She knocked on her window. It was weak, but surprisingly it was also heard. Someone came running to the window. They knocked back. They were calling someone else over then they were yelling something at the window. Finally Macy understood. B-A-C-K-U-P. Macy went over to a corner of her room while they tried to bang at the window and get it to come out.

Finally they got it to shatter. One of them cautiously went inside narrowly missing the broken glass. Macy looked at them happy when she realized it was Jem and Jade. She stood frozen for a moment. Then she ran at Jem. She practically jumped on him and just hugged him. Then Macy looked at Jade and ran at her too. Jade was surprised, but then she hugged Macy back.. Then they heard a terrifying sound... the sound of the house door slamming and someone stomping down the stairs, but then Jem took Macy's hand reassuringly and nodded at her. Then Jade took her other hand. In that moment Macy felt calmer than ever, as if she could take on absolutely anything.
