By the mid afternoon, Katie had won four stuffed animals in some of the games and Lance had only received one.
"How were you so good at those?!" Lance exclaimed.
"Beginners luck?" She said shrugging. "Hey, at least together we complete the set."
"The what?"
"There were only five colors and we have all five. We complete the um lion rainbow set!" She said, beaming. Lance smiled. Just then Keith came back with ice cream in his hands.
"What is that?" Katie asked.
"It's ice cream. Try it." Keith said handing her a spoon.
"O-okay." She said skeptically. She took a bite of it and her face lit up. "Wow it's so.." her eyes widened, "Cold!" She said squinting her eyes at the brain freeze.
"Well yeah. It has ice in the name." Keith said. She stopped.
"Oh yeah. I should have put that together." She shrugged it off and took a smaller bite.
"So you said that the other girl was your sister but, you two look nothing alike. So are you adopted or something?" Lance asked.
"Well no. You see the way us merfolk work is when a mermaid needs to populate the world with more mers, she goes to a secluded place and..." she stopped getting flustered. "Makes an egg."
"How does she make the egg?" Keith asked.
"Well that's a bit of a weird subject. She um, goes to her spot and.. forms the egg with her hands." She began to cringe. "And then to fertilize it she... kisses it." She says whispering the last part.
"That's not so weird."
"How is that not weird to you?" Katie asked, clearly confused.
"Well first of all, you made out with Keith and second of all it's just kind of, not disgusting." Lance said.
"Not disgusting? Well what do you humans do to reproduce?"
"Ummmmm." They replied.
"Hmph. Exactly." She said.
"Well anyway." Keith said. "Back to the subject if you and your sister"
"Well, when my mother laid her egg, she must not have realized that another mer had also laid hers there. So we both hatched there and grew up together."
"So you're not really sisters?" Lance said.
"Well not technically but we call ourselves sisters."
"That's interesting. But if you grew up alone, how do you know all of this?" Keith asked.
"Every year, the migrator mermaids pass through and when they would pass through when I was young, they would teach us." She responded.
"Wow. I didn't realize mermaids have such deep history." Lance said.
"Well then, I guess you were just over in the shallow end." She said.
"Hey are you calling me shallow?!" Lance asked. Katie only laughed in response.
"Katie?" They all heard.
"Crap." She exclaimed. "Hey Allura."
