AN: Pidge101, I had fun writing this. I also noticed a pattern: in every one-shot the reader is a girl. So, if you want the reader to be a boy, just ask. Might add that to my intro chapter.

(Y/N) was sure the world hated her when the lottery ticket she was clutching so tightly was tugged out of her hand by a strong gust of wind. She took off after it, wondering why this had to happen to her on this day of all days.

The lottery ticket was worth more money than the few dollars she paid for it. She couldn't lose it. She just couldn't.

Gladstone Gander was sweeping the outside eating area of the cafe he worked at. After the Liu Hai incident, he realized he needed to stop letting his luck get him places. His uncle Scrooge was right; hard work really was worth it.

Suddenly a piece of glossy paper landed on his foot. He looked down and groaned. It was another lottery ticket. His luck wouldn't give him a rest. He reached down to pick it up, planning to throw it in the trash.

"Hey! That's mine."

He paused, fingers almost touching the paper, and turned in the direction of the person that spoke. His heart skipped a beat.

Standing there was a woman with (h/l) (h/c) hair and (f/c) feathers. She had her hands on her hips and was shooting him a glare that could cut diamond.

Gladstone grabbed the paper and stood back up. He then held it out to her, a smirk on his beak. "I guess it's my lucky day. What is your name, miss?"

"(Y/N)." she replied, snatching the lottery ticket back from him. She looked him up and down, raising an eyebrow at his neat suit and the broom he held. "I think a waiter would be a better job for you, mister..."

"Gladstone Gander," he held his hand out for a handshake. She obliged. "Nice to meet you, (Y/N)."

"Ditto."

----

It took (Y/N) a few weeks to realize her path to work had changed. Instead of taking the scenic route by the flower shop, she started going past the cafe where Gladstone worked. The realization brough heat to her cheeks.

She couldn't believe that she was pining for a goose she barely knew! She did talk to him every time she saw him, but it was only a few hellos and how are yous. That wasn't enough to start a relationship on... right?

Of course it wasn't! No one would just ask someone out on a date because of a few chance meetings.

So, when she ran into Gladstone again, it came as a surprise.

"I know we don't know each other well, but..." Gladstone faltered, and reached out his hand. "I wanted to know if you would like to have dinner with me?"

"No," (Y/N) said, pulling her hand away. Her heart broke seeing his smile disappear and be replaced with a frown. "We hardly know each other, Glad. Let's get to know each other before we even try for a relationship, okay?"

Gladstone looked down at his feet, thinking it over, before he finally met her gaze and smiled. "Okay."

----

Months had gone by since that day, and the two have gotten to know each other a lot.

And (Y/N) had fallen hard for the goose. The way he smiled made her stomach flutter with butterflies. The way he looked at her made her cheeks flush. Everything about him was charming.

But he didn't seem to feel the same way about her. She couldn't help but regret not saying yes to dinner. She wondered if things would've been different.

"Hey, (Y/N)," Gladstone said, bringing her back to the present. "Are you okay?"

She looked down at the cup of hot chocolate in her hands. "I'm fine. Just thinking about stuff."

"Do you mind sharing this 'stuff'?" he asked, concern concealed by his amusement.

"I... I was thinking about when you asked me to dinner." she looked up, meeting his gaze. "I regret not saying yes."

His gaze softened, and he reached over to grab her hand. "(Y/N)... You were right. I needed to get to know you-"

"But, I lost my chance, Gladstone. I lost my chance being with you." her voice cracked, bringing attention to tears threatening to fall.

"You didn't." he said softly, squeezing her hand. "You only doubled it."

It took (Y/N) a few seconds to realize what he meant. "Oh." a smile spread across her beak and her cheeks dusted a light pink under her feathers. "Glad..."

"I love you, (Y/N)."

"I love you too."
