I stayed there for a while. I was happy that I was adopted, angry that the Doctor didn't tell me and sad that he left me. "So, um Anna tell us about yourself," Craig said from behind me. "Well, what do you want to know?" I asked turning around to face them.
"Have any siblings?" Sophie asked. "Had a sibling...." I said quietly. I looked at the floor. "Oh, I'm sorry. I suppose you would like to see your room, right?" Criag proposed.
I looked up from the floor and gave a friendly smile. I didn't want them to think I was a thug or had a bad past. I did have a crappy past though.
I nodded. Craig gestured me to follow him. We walked in a medium sized room, perfect for a bedroom. A bed sat in the corner of the room. There was a desk with a lap top and a purple chair sat in front of it. It looked like a little like my old bedroom but mine had a lot of band posters in it.
"So, this is your room. Your clothes are in that closet. Everything's been taken care of. Uhm, we already had dinner but if you want anything to eat I'm right across the hall. So, I'll just...leave," Craig told me, sounding a bit awkward.
"Thanks," I said right as he was about to close the door. "You're welcome," he replied. He shut the door and I stood there in the darkened room with only the moon shining through the window. It was a perfect night. Frost was covering the edges of the window. You could see the reflection of the full moon in the mirror that hung on the wall right next to the desk.
I sat on the bed that was in the corner of the room and put my knees up to my chin. I gazed out of the window hoping to see something coming back. Tonight felt like that night my "mother" left me.
She wasn't even my mother. She was just some woman I called my mother. I barely knew her and one day she just decides to drop me and Alan off at an orphanage where only Ms. Robert liked me. I could never forget that night...
We arrived in Alva,Kentucky about an hour ago. Alan and I were sitting in the back seat messing around. Alan decided to put his hand in my hair and pull it. "Ow!Ow!Mommy, Alan's pulling my hair! Stop!" I shouted. "Alan, stop that," she told him quietly.
She looked sad. Grandma was sitting beside her, looking almost as sad as Mom. It was late at night and Alan and I were getting a bit tired. "Ann, could you hand me my drink?" Alan asked me. "No, you can get it yourself," I remarked.
He sighed. He just stared in front of him. I looked out my window and breathed on it. I traced a small heart, a good one for a five year old, and watched the trees and houses pass by. The car came to a slow stop in front of a tall one. There was a sighn but I couldn't read what it said. The only only word I could make out was 'The'. Mom and Grandma unbuckled their seatbelts as Alan helped me out of my booster seat.
"Anna, don't be scared," he whispered in my ear. I nodded. He picked me up and I clinged my arms around his neck and my legs around his waist. He could tell I was tired.
Mom held out her hand to Alan who took it in a heartbeat. He had a frown on his face and looked like he was about to cry. Grandma knocked on the door and Alan put me down. I grabbed his hand and he squeezed mine really tight.
"Alan, you're hurting my hand," I said. "Sorry." The door opened and really tall woman with very curly brown hair came out. She was wearing a nightgown with a blue robe over it. She had floral slippers with little bows on them.
I don't remember what they were saying because I wasn't really paying attention but the next thing I knew, Mom was giving me a kiss on my forehead. "Anna, you be strong. Don't do anthing stupid," she said with tears in her eyes. She kissed Alan on the top of his head and told him something. She stood up and Grandma walked her away from the place.
The woman grabbed me and Alan by our shoulders and pulled us into the home. My room was in front of the building on the second floor. Alan was on the first. She walked me to my room and opened the door for me. There was a girl about my age with long black hair and bright green eyes. She was beautiful.
"This is Katelyn, she's your roomate. And I'm Ms. Robert," the woman told me. I looked at Katelyn. She was sitting on the bottom bunk and she stared at me. Ms. Robert walked out of the room and shut the door behind her. I ran straight to the window and saw Mom and Grandma's car starting to drive away. I put my hand on the cold window and pressed my face against it.
"Don't go..." I whispered. Tears started pouring down my face. I felt a hand on my shoulder. "It's okay..." Katelyn said. I stayed quiet. The perfect day had turned into a horrible nightmare. I understood everything now. I have to stay here with people I don't even know and I'll never get to see my family again.
My small ssuitcase sat in the corner of the room but I didn't even look at it. I shoved Katelyn's hand and climbed up the ladder and faceplanted into the pillow. I pulled the blanket over my shoulders and sobbed quietly into my pillow. Katelyn walked over to the door and switched off the light.
The gaze of the moon was staring me in the eyes, comforting me. It was as if the moon saying, "Ann, don't cry." I stared out of the window. It was barely snowing in the cold night.
It's been a long time since Katelyn fell asleep so, I threw the blanket off of me, and kicked of my shoes and socks. My jacket sat on the chair in front of my desk, when will I use that? Probably for drawing. I climbed down the ladder and stepped barefoot onto the cold hardwood floor.
I went over to the window and sat down on the floor in front of it. I gazed out of it watching the small snowflakes sticking to the window. I pulled the blanket nearest to me and put it around me. I pulled my knees up to my chin and wrapped my arms around them and quietly sobbed in the silent winter night.
