Joseph Seed x Deputy
Joseph was a busy man, he always worked on his sermons, and always stressed over the Deputy. Stressed over you. You had caused him so much trouble, even when you're under his grasp you still refuse to answer him, and you still refuse to join him.
You would ignore him, but you'd take the food and drink he'd give you, you didn't want to go through what Jacob had already put you through. Joseph tried his best to convince you of his reasons.
He had assumed that you were mute until you had muttered a thank you.
Despite all that you had done he still tried with you, smiled, and preached at you.
It had been a little over two months now. You had started to worry that the resistance didn't care that you had gone missing two weeks ago, no-one had sent for you, no-one had tried to contact you, and no-one seemed to acknowledge the saviour of Hope County was the one who had you."Did anyone come today?" Was your first full sentence in a while.
"I'm afraid not, Deputy." Joseph was calm and collected, he sat down infront of you, putting his hand on your leg and smiling softly, "I think they're afraid to try... After all there are so many of us and so little of them..." you sighed and raised your eyes to him, "They don't seem to care, we're all reckless, and I risked life and limb to get them out of these types of situations." Joseph had always let you talk when you wanted to, but that was when you didn't talk much. Today you wanted someone to talk to and he was the only one who ever came to visit you. "Deputy, you may have risked yourself for them, but what have they risked for you?" He made a point, but you shook your head, "It's my job." Joseph hummed and raised a brow, "Well clearly it isn't anymore." You looked off to the side, "They don't care do they, Joseph?" He knew what you meant and didn't answer you for a moment, "I don't know if they do." You shrugged and rested against the wall waiting for him to start lecturing you about something, but it didn't come.
"You know i'd let you out if I knew you wouldn't try to hurt my flock or me..." the thought of being outside comforted you, being with Boomer, Peaches, or Cheeseburger. You looked to him again with what he assumed was a curious look, "Like... outside out?" He knew thats where you wanted to be, because you were constantly stuck in the same spot in his home. "Yes, outside out." You shifted again to get closer, "there could be a compromise, maybe?" He smiled at your freedom-hunger, humming in thought for a moment, "If you run away and we catch you again you're not going outside for a very long time, understood?" You nodded in a excited way and you felt even more excited when he leaned forward and unlocked you. Your first instinct was to stand and run, but your legs ached as you stood, and they about gave in when you put all your weight on them. "You'll have to come back here in an hour or two, Deputy." You nodded and popped your back, "You can call me [Y/n] you know... I'm not really a Deputy when I don't have my badge..." he raised his brow, "Alright then, [Y/n]. Be back here alright? I don't want to send someone to get you." You nodded, all you could think about was getting outside though, so you could plan an escape or call Boomer to be with you, the sun made you cringe and hide your eyes for a moment, but you were excited for it. You had walked off after Joseph finished talking and your goal was to get to the back of the Church to avoid the Peggies. As soon as you got there you started to call out for Boomer, knowing he'd come to you, and he did. Your hands buried themselves in his soft fur as he licked your face, you smiled at the comfort and sat down so he could cuddle up to you, and you could stay like this for hours, but the time came to return to Joseph. You contemplated it for a few minutes before getting up and going back into the compound with Boomer on your heels. Joseph was pleased to see you heading towards him, though he was skeptical about Boomer.
"Where on Earth did he come from?" Was his first question,
"I called him while I was at the back of the Church... I wanted company." Your answer was quick, "Well, come on inside, we'll eat, and sit on the couch." You nodded, "Can Boomer come? He doesn't shed- much." He furrowed his brows before humming, "Sure, why not." You smiled as you went inside, looking back to wait when your radio crackled- and Dutch's voice filled your ears.
"Kid, were the hell are you? We've been looking everywhere for you. John's about taken the whole damn Holland Valley back and you're nowhere to be found. We need you here Dep." You raised your brows as Boomer began to bark in excitement at Dutch's voice, you lifted the radio to your mouth, "Dutch, I'm fine. I thought you guys knew where I was." You were confused now, "No kid, you just went off the grid- you've been off it for the past two damn months." You took a step back and reached down to Boomer, listening to Dutch's words, "I can't really do anything about Holland Valley right now-" it took a moment for him to respond, "Kid you need to get those outposts back on our side. They've got our people." He was growing agitated for some reason, "Dutch, I cannot do anything right now i'm in a situation were I can't do anything." About now Joseph had had enough and he took the radio from your hand as Dutch spoke a few curses, and turned it off. You looked at him for a moment, "Sorry." He chuckled and patted your shoulder before heading to the kitchen to make food, you watched him from the doorway for a moment before taking a seat on the couch and petting Boomer while waiting, the food was good, and you helped him while cleaning the dishes. Afterwords you both sat on the couch and chose to watch Old Yeller. Which was a bad idea. Throughout the movie Boomer laid at your feet while you rested your head backwards. Joseph remained relaxed on the couch while watching. By the end of it however you had your face buried in Boomer's chest sobbing your eyes out. Joseph was honestly amused at this but stroked your hair to calm you down. You sniffled and looked up at him, "It's alright..." he was a lot calmer then you, "but Joseph- the dog..." You loved dogs more then anything, so the movie made you cry for a good while. You fell asleep eventually and Joseph chose to leave you on the couch instead of waking you. You seemed to trust him enough to cry about a dog in front of him and he smiled, pressing his hand to your cheek before moving to sit in his armchair.
He'd have to make a note that you like dogs.1251 words
