Even though the night was cold with the strong breeze, the Swan twins woke up sweating. Their night clothes sticking to their skins, tears pricking their eyes as they sat panting on their bed. Bella from the corner of her eye saw a tall and lanky figure that lingered in the dark nook of her room and from the slight moonlight that entered through the window, she could make out the face of Edward Cullen. Scrambling towards her bedside lamp, she turned the light on and swiftly turned back to the corner. Only he wasn't there anymore.
Gabby, however, was different, she didn't see a Cullen, no she dreamt of being one. She saw herself with pale and sparkling skin, with beautiful golden eyes as she ran through a forest. With her, was a man, his back facing her's as he ran in front of her. The sounds of joyful cheers and the prickling and cracking limbs of trees echoed through the forest. One would describe it as calming.
Gabriela would describe it as a nightmare.
It wasn't that being a Cullen was a nightmare. It's that something about seeing herself, or even her sister, sporting the same golden hues as the Cullen's, on her first day, was unsettling. The idea of possessing enchanting and flawless faces was terrifying. It wasn't that she detested the idea of being flawless but being inhumanly perfect bothered her.
Fanning herself, Gabby tore her covers off her body as she moved towards the window, sitting by the sill, she watched as the trees swayed with the breeze. Then suddenly, she saw a dark but swift figure zoom from the side of the house and into the forest clearing. Leaning over the window, she squinted to see the figure better, but it already left and she was stuck staring at the forest's shadows.
When morning came, with the sun shining dimly behind the usual grey clouds that covered the sky, Gabby was up and in the kitchen preparing herself a cup of coffee, dressed in her jeans and white button-up, layered with a sweater vest to keep her warm. It would be a lie to say that Gabriela wasn't in her own world. The dream doing wonders to her thoughts as she lost herself in worry.
So lost in her thoughts she didn't notice her sister waving her hand over her face.
"Gabs?" She yelled out slightly, shaking the older girl out from her dazed state.
"Oh, Izzy. Coffee?" She offered a strained smile playing on her lips.
"No thanks." She answered grabbing the tea bags from the cupboard instead, "Penny for your thoughts?"
"It's nothing Izzy, just some stupid dream last night." Shaking her head to rid her of the thoughts, she smiled and finished her coffee, before she told Bella about her plans on meeting up with Sophia.
"You and Sophia are really close, huh?" Bella whispered. Feeling the growing jealousy at the pit of her stomach. She knew she and her sister were like two peas in a pod, but from the stories she heard from Deb and Charlie, she had never reached the same closeness Sophia shared with her sister. She had never even heard of her sister's quick and innocent love with that Call boy.
"Huh? Oh, yeah. We grew up together, with Jake and the others since we were homeschooled by Deb before her husband died."
Nodding, she excused herself after hearing her phone ring, answering Jessica's call, pushing the jealousy away from her mind.
