Zander's POV
We were taking finals then it was on to graduation. Avery knew what she wanted to do after school and I had an idea but I decided to keep it to myself for right now.
I never knew what I wanted to do with my life. I was just wandering aimlessly around, hooking up with random chicks, doing god knows what, anything else that was bad.
Then every time Avery came over or we went over to her house, something stirred in me. She wasn't the kind of girl you randomly hook up with. She had these ideals that drove me nuts. It was like she lived in this fantasy world where I felt like I was in a reality world.
Then one day I understood why she escaped into movies. It wasn't because she lived in a fantasy world it was because she saw things differently. I couldn't fault her for it.
Getting to know her, was the best thing I could have ever done. Falling in love with her was the greatest thing I could have ever done.
"Zander?" Her voice knocked me out of my thoughts as we stood there in our caps and gowns. I looked at her. "What are you thinking about?" He presses the tip to my forehead.
"That I know what I want to do after graduation," I said as she gave me a look.
"Attention seniors! Please take your seats so we can start!"
We all sat down and the faculty gave speeches. Boringgggg.
Then they called the Valedictorian.
"Zander Masterson! Please come to the stage!"
I got up and everyone looked at me. What? I might have did stupid shit but didn't mean I didn't work at school.
I walked towards the stage and climbed the stairs, walking over to the podium.
"Thank you ladies and gentlemen. I spent four years not having a clue of what I wanted to do with my life. Then one day, I woke up in the hospital not knowing if I was going to live or die. It was a huge wake up call."
Everyone looked at me stunned as I looked at my parents, Violet and Avery.
"Then I woke to see the most important people there with me. They made me realize what was important in life and for that I knew it was time to make some changes. If you have people that love and care about you, hold onto them. I also realize we only have one life, so live it. Thank you."
I kept it short and sweet. I'm not into that whole future crap. People that give those kind of speeches don't have a clue about life. We don't know what's going to happen from day to day let alone the future. So, live your day as your last.
After my amazing speech, well I thought so, they called us up to get our diplomas. Needless to say my parents cheered like big goofballs. I think they were just happy to see me actually graduate.
After we all collected our diplomas, Avery jumped into my arms.
I didn't hesitate to kiss her.
"Okay you two break it up," Evan said as they walked up to me. I set Avery down and looked at him.
"Now that everyone has graduated except you two," dad said pointing at Violet and Mira, "let's go celebrate so we can ship kids off."
We all looked at him.
"What? I still got one more to get through before I can have an empty house and a naked Goldie."
"Ewww gross!" All of us exclaimed. No one wants to hear of your parents being unholy.
Why must parents ruin a moment? Correction why must mine ruin a moment?
We had dinner at Summer's place and all of us talked. It's funny, I never thought my life would turn out this way but it did and I was happy how it turned out.
Everyone still questioned what I planned on doing with my future but I wouldn't tell them. They would find out soon enough especially Avery. What can I say? I'm a man of many hidden moments.
*********
Summer arrived and all of us went up to see Grams. Our parents thought it would be nice to surprise her. Boy was she surprised when all of us showed up but she welcomed us with open arms.It had been a while since I got to see her. I loved Grams. I was helping in the kitchen with her and we talked.
"That's quite a good looking guy you have," she said to me.
"Zander? Eh, he's okay," I shrugged.
"Uh huh. So did he pop your cherry yet?"
My eyes widened and jaw dropped.
"I'm going to take that as a yes. I'm also guessing Evan doesn't know?" I just looked at her. "That would be a yes. Come on let's take this stuff out."
I helped her bring out stuff to the picnic table. While we set food down, mom was setting everything up while dad cooked.
After the meat was done, dad brought it over to the table. All of us sat down then Grams did something quite embarrassing.
"Oh Avery dear, would you like some cherries?"
Zander and I looked at her, stunned. Mom, dad and Zander's parents looked at us.
"Go on. Take it. Or better yet, maybe Zander would like a cherry since he loves them so much," she smirked.
We sat there in stun silence as dad said, "is there something you two want to tell us?"
Zander looked at dad, "nope not really."
"You sure about that?"
"Pretty sure."
Dad glared at Zander as I sat there with my head in my hands.
"Oh lighten up Evan. It's not like you didn't pop Summer's cherry with your cucumber." She turned to us, "I expect lots of babies." Then she winked. Just kill me now.
Needless to say, we got a nice lecture afterwards once Zane quit laughing. Good thing we were going away to school this fall. I'm pretty sure dad wanted to cut off Zander's balls.
Got to love family. Well most of the time.
