Over my lips spread a grin that was mirrored by the Doctor.
"Most formidable living beings in space, huh?"
I repeated his words.
"Well, I think there is no other fitting description. Or do you know any other beings that can travel through time and space?"
Without waiting for my answer he continued.
"Especially in my style. There is only one TARDIS in existence, only one that can travel through 'Time and Relative Dimensions in Space'."
You practically could feel the proudness radiating from his body.
In a solemn voice I said.
"Yes, I guess you are right."
He stared at me as if I was crazy.
"Is everything alright with you? Did the monsters somehow steal your brain and your wits?"
"Do you judge me by my wits? Can one not be nice to someone that was devastated a few minutes earlier?" I snapped right back at him.
He flinched and I could see the pain leek into his eyes.
"I am sorry", I apologized in a soft voice, "That was uncalled for and it was a low blow."
"Yes, indeed it was", he murmured so softly that my human audition nearly did not caught his words.
"Anyway, let's have a look as to where we are. Where being defined as you defined it, naturally."
He span around and practically bounced on his feet because of anticipation.
"There is nothing better than visiting planets without knowing what awaits one."
"Wait, you wish to say, that you have no clues whatsoever as to where exactly we are?" I asked disbelieving.
Only the Doctor could come up with the idea of traveling without knowing the destination. And then finding delight in it.
My disbelieving tone stopped him in midair.
"Well, I suppose..." He paused, and then turned to me. "If you want to phrase it like that, it would be fitting, I guess."
"But I rather prefer to call it a great opportunity of exploring unknown worlds."
"And what if we run into something dangerous, unclassified? You never know what could happen!" I objected.
"What if..." I searched for the right words. "Just think for once. If we land on a crashing ship..."
He interrupted by saying "I can assure you, Elena, we did not land on a crashing ship. You would know if this were the case."
"Well, hypothetically, if we would land on a crashing ship, what should we do? We could die and there would be no one to help us!"
"That is exactly where the thrill lies in. Tell me, where is the fun in visiting safe planets, which, by the way, do not exist. It is so much more delighting being in dangerous places. Just think of the adrenaline spreading along your veins, filling you with the sense of anticipation...DO you feel it?"
I just stared at him.
"I suppose", I murmured.
I did feel the thrill of anticipation, I could not deny that, but I did not think I was prepared enough to face the worlds face-on.
"Now, why don't you open the doors, then?" The doctor suggested.
I just eyed him.
"Why don't you open the doors? At the very least it is your ship, so you should do the honors. Or are you too afraid?"
He looked taken back and then in an insulted voice, he said:
"Well, if you do not have the courage of doing this, step back and enjoy the view from the second row."
He sniffed; then strode to the doors.
"I will!" I called after him.
With a grand gesture he threw the door wide open.
As much as I craned my neck to get a glimpse of what lay behind these doors, I only could see his back.
This was why I knew that something was wrong as soon as he halted in midair.
Then with a swift gesture the Doctor closed the doors and rested his forehead on the inner part of the same doors.
"What is it?" I pressed.
"Well, it seems as if the time component got mixed up and only the space component works. But this component also doesn't work right."
In a matter of a few seconds his voice sounded tired and his face contorted as if he was in pain.
I simply frowned at him.
"What do you want to tell me with this statement?"
He lifted his head from the ground. His eyes met mine. I could not really read what lay in his gaze. He sighed.
"I wish to say that it is still the 16th of April 2018 and we are still in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, Earth, Milky Way. The only difference to our position is that we moved some meters away from your school."
I just stared at him in incomprehension.
He gestured. "See for yourself."
Slowly I walked to him and opened the doors.
My gaze was met by houses over houses. The TARDIS was situated in a little alleyway that led straight back to...
I gasped. We really had only moved a few meters. Looming before me was the faint silhouette of the sandstone walls of my school.
I slowly turned to the Doctor.
"What is the meaning of this?"
He simply slid down the wall across from me.
"If I knew..."
