"Okay, ready?," Josh's voice was full of excitment.
We were both dressed for school and had our backpacks on. We started jogging, it felt really weird jogging with our backpacks. After bout five minutes Josh turned to me, strands of his red hair fell onto his forhead. "First one to make it to that diner has to buy the other one breakfast." He nodded towards the restaurant up ahead.
I smiled. "You're on." I picked up my speed, so did he. He was beating me, I pushed harder. Our steps were the exact same. I gasped as I touched the handle, with a little too much force because I ended up falling inside. Josh had his hands on his knees and was breathing hard. As soon as he saw me he burst into laughter while pointing at me.
I rolled my eyes. "Help me!"
"Oh!" He quickly grabbed my hand and pulled me to my feet. That's when i first looked around. There were a couple of booths and the counter had a bunch of stools. The walls were light blue with pictuers of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez, Marlyin Monroe, Andy Griffith, and Redd Foxx, etc. There was a waitress at the counter who was looking at Josh with a disapproving look. She had light brown hair and appeared to be in her fiftys.
"Sit anywhere, dear," she smiled warmly at me. We took a booth by the window. I looked outside. The sun still wasnt't up and only a few cars were on the road.
"What will you have sweety?" She asked several minutes later.
"Um I'll have the bacon and cheddar cheese omelet with orange juice please."
"Sure thing, hun." She smiled as she took the menue from me. She turned to Josh without a smile. "And you?"
"Pancakes with milk, please."
"Okay," she took the menue from him. As soon as she went into the kitchen I laughed.
"Someone does not like you."
"No kidding," he said looking at the door from were she dissapeared.
"So how much longer to Trey's?"
"About 10 minutes."
I scoffed. "That wasn't long at all."
"That's because we were running. Walking it's about half an hour or so. You're in damn good shape too, so that gives us a plus. I tried running with shelby one time, she made me carry her the rest of the way." He laughed, shaking his head at the memory. "Worst 50 minutes of my life, and to top it all off, it started raining." I smiled. The waitress came back with our drinks then.
"You never told me where Trey lives exactly."
He smirked. "You'll see." The waitress came back with our food.
"Wow, that was fast."
"Yeup," she said popping the "P". "Because we're oh so busy with all our other guests," she joked with a laugh. I looked around and we were the only ones here, just then some guyin a buisness suit came in. "I spoke too soon. Huh if every time I open my mouth we get costumers, then I'll just have to keep it open huh?"
We heard a groan from the kitchen, followed by a "Please don't!" Josh and I laughed.
"Oh, hush, you!" She waved her notepad at the kitchen while walking over to the man that had walked in.
Josh and I ate our meals in silence, ocasionally laughing from all the bickering that was happening in the kitchen. Soon we were done, the waitress, Dotty, who's name I learned from the cook yelling it, brought us our check. It was $14.80. Josh left a twenty on top of the bill.
