I watch her lope towards her home, mesmerized by the sunlight shining off her fur. I feel a muzzle against my leg and look down to see the ice blue Calis rubbing her snout against my shin. I begin to take a step back instinctively, but then she stops. She places a paw against my boot, and lets out a low bark, much like that of a large dog and extremely unlike the wild foxes that had followed me on occasion, who usually made much higher pitched noises.
I'm sorry she didn't stay longer... But she wasn't lying when she said that she'd be back. But she IS correct in that it will be a while. Once again, I'm sorry.
I jumped slightly at the voice in my head. What in the name of Carrib?! What was that?!
Don't worry yourself, cub. I forgot that you have never experienced a mindlink before... I'm sorry to startle you, but I didn't want you to lose faith that the shifting one would return.
'Neither did I' came in a wave so strong that I let out a gasp from the flood of the same repeated thought that was coming from every direction washing over my mind until there was nothing else in my head. I sat down with the feeling I would have fallen over otherwise.
How? Why now?
It was all I could manage to get out as I tried to recover from the onslaught of information.
Calm down and take deep breaths. I'm surprised nobody ever taught you about what you could do... I glared at her, and she took a small step back, lowering her head for a moment. I apologize. It slipped my mind, Lurai.
Lurai? What does that mean?
It means 'lure' in the language of the gods. It is the name of people like you, a descendant of Tienta and Silon. Well, their children, actually. WHAT?! I say this both out loud and mentally, my mouth agape. Tienta and Silon? The goddess of animals and the god of the hunt? DESCENDANT?!
She nods her cold head once, then looks back up at me. Why did you think we were drawn to you?
I never had a very good idea. Why am I a 'Lure'? Because I am a partial god?
There was a moment's hesitation before she answered with a nod. I shake my head slowly, still trying to process everything.
"I need to go lay down..." I murmur, hoping they understand what I mean. One more nod of an icy head, then I stand up and move inside.
~ Sorry about all the new stuff packed in here... I'm thinking about making a chapter with all the characters, gods and goddesses so far!
