"I just realized that we've spent this entire time talking about me. What about you?" Star says, face reddening slightly.

"Not much to talk about with me, I guess."

"Didn't you say you had never left these woods, though? How come?" she asks, leaning forward a bit, as though she thinks I will whisper the answer.  I shrug, not knowing how else to respond.

"I'm not really sure myself. I've lived here my entire life, don't like trying new things, and I'm not very good with people. I guess I just prefer these woods to anywhere else." I look her in the eyes as I continue, though I drop her gaze as I finish. "I live in my house, work in my garden, eat from my garden, and take care of my animals."

"Your animals?" she asks. "What animals do you have? And did you say you live in a house? I didn't know there was one in here..."

I glance around, double-checking that nobody is nearby, then say, "I could show you if you want... Do you have any pets?" When she shakes her head, I breathe a sigh of relief. "Good. If you did, you couldn't see them. I'm afraid the smell of other animals would scare most of them away from you, and maybe me too. C'mon, I'll show you."

When we reach my house, I stop walking. "Home sweet home," I say. "They're around back." We walk past my garden, then slow down as we reach the tree line. "Don't freak out, okay?" I say, turning to face her. When she nods, I gesture for her to follow me, then walk back into the clearing beyond.
