Chapter 4- October

10/30/94

S.P.E.W. is doing well. Now that I've advertised it a bit more, people are paying up, though they didn't seem too happy about it. Some still think it's just a joke. But that doesn't mean I'll quit trying. If anything, I'll try even harder. But anyway, one day in Defense Against the Dark Arts, the Imperious Curse was put upon us, to which our objective was to fight it. Harry did very well, but he was the only one. Even I struggled with it a little, probably because there is no way you can study for this, not to mention that books don't help either, at least not in this subject. I hope next year we spend more time in our textbooks. At 6:00, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang are arriving at Hogwarts for the Triwizard Tournament, a magical competition consisting of three students from three different schools. I can't wait to see who we're up against, even though the whole point of the tournament is international magical cooperation to make friends. Well, I suppose I should go and get ready for my next class; I don't want to be late.

Everyone was making such a fuss yesterday when Durmstrang arrived, due to the fact that Viktor Krum attended the school, especially girls. During dinner last night, Ron couldn't keep his eyes off of a girl from Beauxbatons, claiming that she was a veela. It doesn't seem very likely, but I quickly dropped the subject. Anyway, this morning Harry, Ron, and I, went to visit Hagrid's, after watching the Weasley twins fail to enter their names into the Goblet of Fire. What were those two thinking? I warned them not to, but no one ever listens to me. When we were at Hagrid's, I told him about S.P.E.W. and asked him to join. He absolutely refused, telling me that the house-elves are happy to serve. As my defense, I used Dobby as an example. Hagrid continued, saying that every group has an odd one, this one being Dobby. I finally just gave up, not wanting to argue with anyone. We walked back to the castle, it being almost time for the Halloween feast, and the announcement of the three champions. We ate quickly, everyone awaiting the news. Finally, they were chosen. From Beauxbatons; Fleur Delacour, the girl that Ron was staring at yesterday. From Durmstrang; Viktor Krum, the famous Quidditch player. And finally, from Hogwarts; Cedric Diggory and, you won't believe this, Harry Potter. He was shocked when he heard this, and I was also. I knew he didn't put his name in the Goblet of Fire; he wouldn't, even if he could. I plan to talk to him tomorrow, to see what he thinks. I can already tell. This is going to be the most interesting Triwizard Tournament in history.
