Sarah's POV

Hours have past since the drama at breakfast. The sun is low in the sky which makes my stomach start to rumble.

"When is dinner?" I've spent my day reading and doing exercises. I normally don't have time to exercise when I'm home, unless I schedule some gym time. So it felt good to do something productive for my body.
Three knocks sounded and I turned away from the window to face the door.

"My dear, it's time for dinner." Nyx entered and walked to me. He had a gentle smile on his face that seemed out of place. It was different than how he acted this morning.

"Oh, I haven't changed. Will it be okay?" I composed myself from his sudden, misplaced smile to reply.

"No need to fret about that. We will be dining alone." He waved his hand dismissively. "Freshen up and join me in our shared parlor when you've finished."

"Okay. I won't be long." He bowed his head slightly in acknowledgment and move to leave.
"Please wear your hair up tonight. I do enjoy it when I can see your features."

All I can do is nod at his strange request. I have a hair tie with me, so that's not a problem, but it sure it weird.
I snap out of my thoughts and move to freshen up. Since it's just he and I, there's no need to be fancy. I change my dress in to a plain black dress. It's similar to the lilac one I had been wearing, but it held no design except for the purple lace on the waist and neck line.
My hair was easy to pull up in to a high pony tail and was wavy from the braid it had been in all day. I washed my face and hands before moving to the parlor door.

Deep breaths, deep breaths.

I enter the room to see a small dining table placed near the window. A candelabra is in the center and two glasses of wine are filled, one on each side. The meal has already been placed in their spots across from each other. Nyx sits in a seat that's closest to his room.
He stands and walks over to my chair to pull it out for me to sit. I thank him, not forgetting my manners, and he returns to his own place.
He raises his wine.

"Let us have a pleasant evening in the company of one another." I raise my own wine in response to the fae's statement.
After sipping the liquid and returning it to the table, I study Nyx.

"I thought you were mad at me..." I let my sentence settle in between us.

"Mad at you?" He doesn't make eye contact, choosing to focus on his meal.

"Well before I left breakfast, there was a bit of a scene."

"Oh, that." He looks up and acknowledges the happenings. "I've forgiven you already. You need not dwell on your error of judgment."

"Forgiven me? Error of judgment?" I'm confused.

"Yes. Your choice to disgrace me in front of my court by rejecting my generous affections, however wrong, are forgiven." He flippantly explains. "I realize you still have your world's tendencies and have yet to fully grasp the requirements for conduct of my escort."

"What? Nyx, I was uncomfortable. That's why I pushed you away."

"How could you feel that way?" He subtly accuses. "Have I not made you feel welcome in my presence? Did I not disregard proper protocol and welcome you, an intruder, to my table?"

"You have! I'm not-" I'm interrupted...

"Then how could you say that I make you feel distressed?"

"I'm sorry. That's not what I meant-" Again, he interrupts me.

"Like I have said, there is no need for your apology, as I have forgiven you. I do appreciate your sentiment, however." Nyx says. "Now, shall we eat?"

Dinner was passed in relatively comfortable silence. Once he was finished, the Prince had a servant come in to clear the table. I tried to speak up and say that I wasn't finished but the table was cleared before I could form the sentence.
Nyx stood and gestured for me to follow him to the couches.

"I have a question for you, an important question." He said. "Think about your answer before speaking. Do you want to go home?"

"Yes." I answer without hesitation. "I have a life back in my world. I'd love to get back to it."

"A life? You are alone in your world. You work to support yourself. Sarah, I ask this because I have an offer to make you. You may make your own choice but please think heavily on the matter before answering, like i said. What I offer is a place here in my court, one where you will be treated as a queen ought to."

"Nyx..." I am at a loss for words.

"It entails only one thing, snowflake, for you to submit yourself to me. For you to become my mate." His silver eyes feel like they reach my soul as they stare at me. "It is a better life. One where I promise you the best things in this life. You won't have any pain or heartache. You can still have some freedom in traveling back and forth between worlds. Ultimately, you will be next to me."

I was stunned. My thoughts were swarming, like an army of bees, in my head. He moved closer to me on the couch me shared and took hold of my hands.

"Just promise me you will take the next few days to think on this matter. If you say yes, there is a world of greatness that will be yours."

"If I say no?" My fingers tingled painfully but I couldn't move them from his grip.

"If you say no, I can't promise that I can get you home safely." His eyes darkened and the pain in my fingers resonated up my arms. "You may be stuck here and placed with the goblins in the filth where humans belong."

I hissed at the pain which made him make a ghost of a smile. The pain now touched my neck and my chest shuddered with the need for air. He leaned in, moving one hand up to my jawline. My body is frozen and covered in needle-like pain. Nyx's cold breath tickled my lips as he drew even closer. I couldn't breathe because of the glass in my veins and my eyes shut. Everything was silent around us and the air was dreadfully crisp. His lips touched mine and a cold fire erupted in my chest. My heart stopped when my lips moved in sync with his. His sharp teeth took hold of my bottom lip and I whimpered from the sting. He became more aggressive at the sound of my pain. The kiss started to taste like blood, my blood. The grip he had on my jawline and neck held me in place. Every part of my body was becoming numb and my chest was burning from not having air. The prince was addicting but a small part of me knew this needed to stop, for my sake.

Sing me the song, love. How did it go? A voice murmured in my mind.

The voice was comforting and caused a tune to start playing, like a music box. I whispered the words in my mind and my hands began to move. I ran them up the prince's body to his shoulders.
He moved his lips from mine to my neck, using both his hands now and forcing me to grant him access by turning my head to the side. The cold burn followed his mouth. He rumbled in greed as he devoured his way down my neck to my shoulder. Before he could move his icy lips down to my chest i gripped his shoulders, the music becoming louder in my head, and I pushed him away.
His eyes were black with lust. My reflection in them showed dark blue lips and a deathly pale complexion. We both huffed air in and out for different reasons.
I jumped up and off the couch and quickly made my way to my room. On my way through the door way, I heard a deep volatile chuckle come from the fae on the couch. I closed and lockeda the door with shaking hands.

You're safe now. The voice assured me.

Was I?
