Walls

This is the world that I live in,
restricted by walls,
by barriers,
and we refuse to change
Instead, we each cower in our prisons,
too afraid to break down the walls,
too afraid for what people will truly
see us as.
Our lives are filled with disguises and lies.
With every lie, another minute is wasted.
Time is restricted, time runs out for
each and every one of us.

So we try to stop time.
We attempt to stop aging
We work to save time
by making something go quicker.
We try to buy time, but it never works.
Consumed by this pursuit,
we lose who we truly are,
who we were made to be,
what we were created to do.

But what if that time was
suddenly taken away?
Every well fought for minute is gone
and we look back on
the lives that we lived.

What would we see?
Would it be full of selfishness?
Would we see self-righteousness?
Would the content of our lives be angering?
Would it be filled with cruelty?
Disappointment with ourselves?

What if we took a step back?
Instead of being scared and selfish,
we broke the barriers.
Instead of wasting time about
worrying over the time given to us,
we make time for others.
Gone are the masks and walls
we painstakingly built
in their places, love and acceptance
for who we truly are live.
The world is open and filled with
love, hope, and understanding.

The world right now is
filled with war,
terror, turmoil, and hatred,
but a small hope for peace exists,
like Pandora's jar.

We can change that with well spent time.
With small footsteps, we can feed that
hope and make it grow strong
We can make that hope and dream
become a reality, if only we bond together
and take the time.

So what will you do with
the precious time that
has been given to you?
