I was sleeping soundly under my covers until I felt a presence. The presence made my heart drop like a weight my chest couldn't handle, quaking in fear. It was here again. I carefully pried my eyes, scared that something scary would all of a sudden jump in front of me.
Darkness is all that met my sight. I slowly got up, lifting the covers off of me. I looked around my room. My door was ahead of me, but closed. My closets double, sliding doors was cracked open with light spilling out. My window hung above my toy chest and that's when I noticed. My window looked like it was made out of black glass. No stars, moon, trees, or clouds appeared outside if the window. Just darkness.
I gulped as I waited for something to happen. Nothing. I let out a shaky breath as I sat there waiting, but nothing did. Then a black, shadow-like hand appeared on the window, making me jump. I sat still, as if it wouldn't notice me if I did so. It just stayed there. The whole thing was like a waiting game. And it was scaring me. The wait. The darkness. It was scaring me more and more as if that's was its goal.
Then a bunch of black hands started banging on the window, cracking it slightly. I screamed and tried to go further away from the window, but the wall was in the way. Then the banging stopped and the hands slid off, slowly. I was breathing quickly. My hazel eyes were wide in fear. My heart was beating so fast that I felt that it would explode in any moment. It felt like a roller-coaster, but with much more adrenaline running through me.
Then I heard scraping. I slowly turned my head to the side and saw two large hands, much bigger then the ones banging on my window. It jutted out its claws and it bended its arms to pull itself from under my bed. Slowly, it came closer to getting out. I tried to put distant between myself and that monster, but I only was kicking my feet out as I tried to go through the wall.
Then light seeped into the room and my mom stood there with panicky hazel eyes with her black hair in a mess. the monster made a high squeal as it scrambled back under my bed.
"Mom!" I yelled with relief. I scrambled out of my bed and ran to hug her. I squeezed her tight and she hugged me back.
"Are you alright honey? I heard you screaming earlier." She said in a worried tone.
"I saw monsters mommy!" I started to cry while I was looking back at the memory.
"I know! I'm sorry dear! If I could get you inside the church, I would! But we don't have the money." She explained as she stroked my black, bob-cut hair.
The church is where people go for safety. Every night, monsters or beast come out to kill. The monsters are attracted to darkness, but the light helps keep them away. Unfortunately, candles burn out and don't produce enough light. Plus, they are very expensive, but if you get the small ones, they're affordable.
"Can I sleep with you tonight, mommy?" I asked. I was only six, but monsters seemed to be chasing me everywhere. I never knew that monsters just go after a vulnerable person, kill them and go instead of following them till they were dead.
"Of course, honey!" She then picked me up and carried me off to bed. I hated my room because this beast always tried to get me. After that incident, I never saw it again and eventually, I forgot about it. But when I turned nine, I saw it appear again.
I was sleeping and I woke up with a jolt when I heard my moms high-pitched scream. I ran to help my mom, but instead found her room in a blazing fire while it engulfed the wood. But that's not what made me freeze in panic and shock.
I saw fire eating away the flesh and clothes on her. She was banging into the walls and running blindly while screaming, trying to escape the fire. I watch it turn her skin black and then she dropped. Her clothes were crisp along with her charred skin. I even saw her bone turning black right before my eyes. I slumped to the ground, in shock. I didn't know what to think or do. I just sat there and waited for death to come. Waited to burn. Heat was wrapping itself around me, making me sweat. But I didn't care. After dad left, my mom stayed strong, but how can I? My only family just burned in front of me!
Then, under moms bed, I saw the monster that stalked me. It stayed under moms bed and started pulling mom under the bed with it. Then her burned body was just gone.
Soon, firefighters came and thrown me over his shoulder. I did nothing but sway with every step he took. I was saved, but my mom wasn't. Not even her body was. Apparently, the fire was caused by some candles. That was the end of the story and I was adopted into a nice family. They had a daughter that was two years younger then me named Caramel. She had long, brown hair with caramel eyes-like her name-and was very energetic. Soon, we became the best of friends.
When I turned eighteen, we joined military training to protect the people from these beast. Different reasonings of course. Mine, so I can meet the monster that killed my mom and hers, so she can prove to her mom that she can protect herself.
And my journey began...
