The Sea's Daughter

Chapter 12: Awake

Emma felt as if her head was filled fog. She remembered going to save Scott and his brothers, fighting the Furies, and then collapsing into Scott's arms.

An annoying beeping was what pulled Emma from the fog of her own mind. She ran through her mental check list. Hands, good. Arms, good. Head, still attached. Legs, she couldn't feel them. 

Emma felt her chest tighten as she tried to move her legs. They wouldn't. Why wouldn't they move?

The beeping sped up as Emma's heart started to race. What was going on? Why wouldn't her legs work?

She felt someone take her hand and began rubbing soft circles on the back. From the callouses, it had to be Scott's hand.

"Shh, its going to be okay," Scott said softly. Emma could tell that he was in a lot of pain.

Emma forced her eyes open. The bright lights stun her eyes for a few seconds, but her eyes adjusted quickly.

Scott's brown hair was messy and tangled. His right hand was in a cast. He had a black and blue bruise on his cheek and a black eye. Emma could tell by the way he was breathing that he had some broken ribs. 

"What happened?" she croaked.

"Your brother," Scott said wincing in pain.

"I'm going to kill him," Emma said gritting her teeth.

"No need. Virgil chewed him out and so did Annabeth," Scott said chuckling. He winced.

"Did you at least hit him?" Emma asked.

"Yeah, I think," Scott said.

The pair sat it silence for a long moment. 

"Scott, how did your brothers take my 'family'?" Emma asked, fearing the answer.

"Pretty good, truth be told. Virgil guessed you weren't normal when he tested your blood. Gordon is glad of it because you help save his life. John really doesn't care either way. I think he just likes your cooking. Alan is grateful for you teaching him how to surf," Scott said patting her hand.

"What about Brains?" 

"Annabeth had to talk to him a bit, but when she did a huge equation in her head, he started to believe. It was kind of funny to watch, now that I think about it." 

"Well, she is a Daughter of Athena. She is very pervasive when she wants to be."

"Yeah I learned that already. She was the one who save me from your brother. That and Bianca. She grabbed her dad's legs and told him I was family," Scott said looking down at his feet.

"You are family to her," Emma said.

"How?" Scott asked.

"Well, I am in love with you, Scott Tracy," Emma said kissing Scott's hand.
