The flight went smoothly and while it was very long, I caught up on a lot of sleep and a lot of reading. I gave Nathan the window seat and he was content at just staring out the window. For once, I was able to sleep soundly without worrying he would wake up distressed.
My body ached as I stepped off the plane and toward the carousel. I waited impatiently for my bag to come around. Even though I was nervous, I mean, moving halfway around the world with a man you haven't seen since you were five isn't easy. But at the same time I was excited. I had been promised my own room, a luxury I've never had since Dad left, and a whole new wardrobe. Not the furniture, but new clothes. I have made sure to check, last time Mum promised that she bought me a literal wardrobe. I was so disappointed.
I began buzzing as I saw my bag come around the carousel, the sooner I grabbed it, the sooner we would be at our new house.
This will be interesting.
I wonder if Dad had someone find out the things I liked for my room, knowing his extravagance, it would'nt surprise me. Even though he was a real douche-bag sometimes, well most of the time, when he has decided he wants something done, he refuses to stop until its done. And he has now decided he wants Nathan and I in a happy home. So we had better be happy.
The image of a massive blue bedroom popped into my mind and I began furnishing it in my mind. A massive bookcase covering one whole wall, filled with all my favourite books. A beautiful antique armchair in the corner, ooh and my own desk! I could do my homework in my room! Oh my gosh, I could get a laptop of my own. Wow, this will be awesome.
My good mood was instantly killed as I saw dad chatting up one of the workers at the airport. Great. I almost forgot about my dad's player status. Seriously, the man is nearly forty but has enough plastic surgery to make him look no older that twenty. And every woman seemed to think he was. And apparently, a mature man is a good thing, which isn't that surprising, who would want to date a man baby?
I've heard countless women whisper about my dad and trust me, its gross. Grown women talking about your father like he's some kind of prize horse.
"Summer? Are you in there?" Dad waved his hand in front of my face, I just realized I was giving the worker he was 'conversing' with a look dangerous enough to set her on fire. And it turns out I wasn't the only one to notice. Even Nathan, who was often oblivious to everything around him began fidgeting, clearly uncomfortable by my anger. I knelt down and gave him a hug, singing the lullaby mum used to always sing him in his ear.
Nathan calmed down and I looked up to see a man mirroring the look I was giving that woman. But the thing I couldn't understand was why it was aimed at me. I've never met the man in my life, at least, I don't think I have.
"Sweetie, this is Thomas, our driver and my good friend," Dad explained confirming the fact that I had never seen the guy before. Thomas continued glaring at me and Nathan, making my blood boil. He seemed to be disgusted by my presence and kept glancing at the Primark jeans and t-shirt I was wearing. Oh no, don't tell me he's the kind of person who judges you for your clothes. I hate people like that, I really hoped most of Dad's 'good friends' weren't like that.
I stepped into the red Ferrari that was parked outside of the airport. It already had Thomas in it at this point. I was the first to climb into the car and Thomas seemed to use that to his advantage as he hissed at me, "Don't steal anything, girl, I got my eyes on you,". So he wants to play like that? Thinking because I grew up in a... less fortunate area I was a theif.
Good job Thomas, you just made yourself a powerful enemy.
The drive to from the airport to the coast, I think, didn't take too long thanks to the high power, high speed car. I occupied myself by glaring at the back of Thomas' head. I really don't like that man. But when Dad announced that we had arrived, breaking the deafening silence in the car, all thoughts of the douche bag in the front seat left my head as I began looking around the area I would now be calling home.
A massive white mansion came into veiw. It had massive windows and a beautiful curved, modern design. The pool was massive and the water was clean and beautiful. There were trees surrounding the house, one of them supporting an equally modern treehouse. A treehouse! I've always wanted one of them! It may seem immature but it sounds great, having your own little home so high up.
There were lights coming out from the windows of the treehouse, a telltale sign that it had electrisity. This is gonna be so cool! On the second floor there was a balcony on the second floor, showing off a veiw of the entire massive garden. My body froze as I saw a beautiful blue and pink room through one of the windows on the second floor. Is that-?
"Great huh kids? Your old man sure does know how to live in luxury, and if you think that's good, wait till you see the inside!" Dad was showing more enthusiasm than I had ever seen. You can tell his British accent is fading, no matter how hard he tries to keep it.
I jumped out of the car, and began walking towards the house, leaving my bags for Thomas to bring in. I heard him grunt with the weight of all three of our bags as a smirk broke out across my face. Now this, I could get used to.
The inside wasjust as modern but wasn't painted the same white as the outside. Instead it was painted in beautiful bright colours, but it was tasteful. The living room was a beautiful blood orange red and the kitchen was a lime green.
I had Thomas lead my to my room (Just for the sheer pleasure of giving him orders). It was breathtaking, literally. The walls were painted powder blue, my favourite colour in the world and there was a pink wallpapered wall. My bad was beautiful, it had a high, white, leather padded headboard and the bedframe was painted white as well. The blankets and sheets were the same shade of blue and pink as the wall as the walls and the pillows were white, with frills surrouning them. The thing that surprised me most was the fact that the bed was massive. I had my very own queen sized bed!
There was a desk in a nook in the wall, and on it were two present boxes. One had a beautiful white laptop in it and in the other was my very one iPhone! Next to them was a card from Dad saying,
Hope you like the room, gong out with Gracie for the night, see you,
Dad
xx
I was giddy with happiness at my room but my body deflated a little when I read the note. It was my first day here and Dad wouldn't be with us.
I was going to be home alone tonight.
