Chrissie walked up to Nathan and crouched down in front of him. He stared at her and she stared at him, refusing to break eye contact. I glanced over at Alma and saw her just as fascinated by the scene emerging in front of us.

Something clicked and both of them broke eye contact, causing a massive smile to appear on Nathan's face. It was strange, I haven't seen Nathan smile like that in so long, usually he looked so forlorn since Mum died, it was heartbreaking seeing him like that. His smile made me instantly forget the tears from earlier and the stress of practically being a parent at fifteen. His smile made me want to smile.

We knew Nathan was different since he was very little. When I was a baby I watched everything, I smiled and I was actually interested  in people. Nathan was different, he loved his teddy bear, Humph, more than anything else in the world. He barely ever smiled at anyone and devoted more of his attention to objects than anyone else. He first smiled at me when I was seven, and I had spent years trying to get his attention, I thought he didn't like me and at my young age, refused to give up until we were friends.

When he was four, Nathan got in trouble at his first day of nursery for pushing a girl over. He then got in more trouble when he refused to explain to the teacher why. My mum was called into the nursery and was met with an upset girl and a blank faced Nathan. As if that asn't bad enough she had to explain to the nursery teacher that Nathan had autism, which we found out when he was three. She found out that Nathan had pushed the girl because she moved one of the toys he was using. See, Nathan organizes things a lot and he was in the middle of organizing some of the toys when the girl picked one up to ask him for it. Another thing with Nathan's autism is that he gets annoyed when people mess up what he's organizing.

"Summer?" I felt a tap on my head as I was pulled out of my thoughts, "Anyone in there?" Alma was staring at me from across the kitchen counter. Wait... I  don't remember sitting down. I looked around the room, taking in my surroundings when I was met with the most beautiful scent.

What is that smell?

I looked down at the counter to see a steaming hot plate of lasagna looking right up at me. A smile broke across my face.

"How did you guys know I loved lasagna?"

-----------

Okay,

I'm sorry if this chapter is kind of sucky. But I did actually work really hard on it. I had to do research as one of you guys asked for me to explain Nathan's condition in more detail. I'm sorry that you guys had to wait so long and got an okay-ish chapter but it will get better.

Also, I'd love to thank ShiiVa_PaTiiBeRii for the great comments that really brightened my day and the great ideas about where my story is going.

Love,

Asha xx
