I was too stunned to move. I felt the color drain from my face, my knees went weak and I would have fallen if the douche of a cop behind me wasn't holding me up. I don't know what would have become of Kap if what happened next never happened.

"Stop!" The voice held so much command and authority, no one disobeyed it.

I was shocked at what I saw.

"You do know what you're doing is animal cruelty and you can, and will, lose your job." He turned to the main police officer. "And you will too, you have no right to arrest either of those two, " he pointed to Adam and Vince," and how will the public react to the beating you gave a girl half your size?"

Justin finished his sentence, looking quite pissed off. Where in the hell he came from? Your guess is as good as mine, maybe he's a creepy stalker and I'll end up on one of those murder mystery shows that Vince is obsessed with, I don't care. Right now, I'm just thankful for what he's doing here and now.

The cop shook the fear off his face quick, but not quick enough to not go noticed by Justin or me. "And who would believe you over the police force?" He said, looking too happy.

"They don't have to believe me, just have to watch the video and see for themselves." Justin held up his phone, it was his turn to look smug.

The silence was deafening, the tension so thick it made me think of the fog Scooby cut a donut out of in an old episode of Scooby Doo I saw when I was young. I had to stifle a laugh at the thought, I tend to have to laugh at the most inappropriate moments..

"Let them go. All of them. Were keeping this off the record. If I ever see any of you or that dog, casing trouble again I wont hesitate to finish what I started." He signaled to his cronies to let us go.

The animal control guy was too afraid to let Kap out of the catch pole.

"My God you are a damn pansy." Justin growled, letting Kap out himself.

Kap licked Justin's hand before running over to me, I sat in the sand with tears running down my face, just holding my baby. I was petting him and whispering sweet nothings to him while he laid his head on my shoulder.

He's a dog, I know, but he was my best friend who was almost wrongfully murdered. And I had to sit by and watch, I had never felt so helpless.

I looked up to see Vince and Justin smiling down at me, Adam was glaring at Justin. His features softened when he looked down at me. I stood up, wiping my tears, I gave Adam a hug, then Vince, then Justin.

"Thank you so much. I don't know how you even got here, or if you are some weird creep, but thank you. Thank you for being a stalker."

He laughed and gave me a squeeze before letting go. He gave me a soft smile I returned.

"I work this route, I was just getting off work and I saw you on the pier and figured I'd say hi if you were still here. Then I saw everything. I'm really sorry I didn't get here sooner, no one should touch you like that." He tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, his facial expression hardened.

"I can't believe you thought to get it on video. I never would have thought to do that." I half laughed.

He gave me a sheepish smile, "I may have kind of lied about the video part, but lets keep that between us."

I rolled my eyes, but I was too happy to be anywhere near mad.

"How can I ever repay my debt to you?" I seriously asked.

A thoughtful smile came on his face, "Have dinner with me Saturday night."

"Sure that sounds- wait." I turned to Vince, who was smiling like a maniac. "What day is it?"

He laughed and shook his head, "Wednesday. And before you ask, no nothing is planned. Vacation. Remember?"

"Oh yeah, gotta get used to that." I looked up at Justin, he was smiling down at me. "Dinner sounds lovely."

"Great, I'll give you a call on Friday for the details." He picked up my hand and looked at me as he placed a soft kiss on my knuckles. "I'll see you soon."

He had already started walking away when I yelled after him, "I never gave you my number!"

"I have my ways pretty lady!" I could practically hear the smirk on his face.

"I don't like him." Adam said for the millionth time.

We were back in Vince's office in the same positions as before, except that Vince was lounging on a chair instead of behind his desk.

"You don't have to like him. I'm the one going on the date with him. Besides you have never said a word to the guy." I told him, also for the millionth time.

"He could be a creep!" He half shouted at me.

"Well so are you, and yet somehow you're still here!" I threw my hands in the air.

Vince was snickering at us when his desk phone rang. "Answer that for me will you?"

I grabbed the phone and cleared my voice, "Vincezo here." I grunted in my best man voice.

Adam burst out laughng and Vince grabbed the phone out of my hand.

"Rude." I huffed.

Adam was trying to hold back his laughter, I walked over to him and gave him a light, helpful shove off the couch.

"Damn it!" Vince yelled and slammed the phone down.

"What's got you all excited?" I cocked an eyebrow at him.

"The hotel had a fire and is asking every guest to leave, non of our side of the building was damaged and they will have our baggage delivered wherever we need."

"Then what's the problem?" Adam asked and I agreed.

"With the holiday season, and the time, there is no way we will find a hotel I will approve of. And don't even suggest a motel like you did that time."

"Hey! That wasn't my fault and you know it. I was just trying to save us some money." I crossed my arms at him.

"What happened?" Adam came to my side.

"Nothing really." I shrugged.

"Nothing really? A homeless man was in our bath tub all night and stole from the mini fridge while we were either sleeping or out. That bill was like two hundred dollars."

"Yea and you blamed it on me!" I yelled, remembering how he stormed in the room with the bill, shoving it in my face. I laughed, "The only reason we found him was when we heard muffled laughter in the bathroom after he called me a fat ass."

Adam grinned like the Cheshire Cat, "You can stay with me."
