Adam POV:

I woke up the next morning and a smile was plastered onto my face. I turned in bed and grabbed the gorgeous woman who was sleeping next to and pulled her to my chest. I placed a kiss on the back of her neck, the shiver she gave me let me know she was awake as well. I grinned against her skin, she felt so perfect against me. I would love to wake like this for the rest of my life.

"Morning, beautiful."

"Oh, fuck." She shot out of bed, frantic.

I sat up with her and put a hand on her shoulder. I was worried, why was she so concerned?

"What? Are you okay?" I asked her.

She lightly pushed me off, getting out of the bed. She held her hands to either side of her head, shaking it ever so slightly.

"This can't be happening." She mumbled.

I got out of bed with her, standing in front of her. A confused look on my face matched hers as I tried to figure out what she was talking about. I tried hard to ignore her perfectly sculpted naked body in front of mine. Her long brown hair framing her face perfectly, her makeup smudged slightly and looking very sexy.

"Hello? Mimi? What are you talking about?" I waved a hand in front of her face.

"It was a mistake." She mumbled.

I stepped closer to her, "Hey, hey it's okay Love."

She shook her head at me. "No, this is far from okay! I slept with you!"

"Well look on the bright side! You can say you've slept with Adam Levine, sexiest man alive. Most girls would kill to say that!" As soon as the words left my mouth I hated myself for them.

Boy if looks could kill.. Her fierce hazel eyes turned murderous, her jaw clenched, and her breathes turned heavy. Oh Adam, how much of an idiot can you be?

"Okay, that was so dumb. Please forget I said that!" I begged for forgiveness. "Let me just take you on a real date. Please?"

She had picked up all her clothes in one hand as I followed her around the room, trying to redeem myself. She stopped mid step, turning to face me. Although she was a good six inches shorten than me, I was still terrified.

A small smirk took over her full lips as she looked at me. But I noticed that her eyes were lacking emotion, they looked dead and broken. Like they had seen far, far too much. All I wanted to do was fix her, take her pain and bare it for her. I wanted her smile, her contagious laughter. Everything she deserved. But she had other ideas as she spoke her next words.

"Sorry, I don't date singers."

With that the most amazing women walked out the door, while I stood there with my mouth open. How could she turn herself off like that? I know she felt something for me, it was in her eyes, the way she touched me. What the hell did I do to make her go from what to cold? I ran after her once I slipped on a pair of boxers, determined not to let her get away again.

I grabbed her and spun her around, pinning her to the wall behind her and kissing her roughly. I felt her start to respond before she roughly shoved me away.

"What's wrong with you!?" I shouted.

"Me? You just shoved me against a wall after I walked away from you!" She growled back.

"Exactly! How can you do that to me? Play with me like that."

"I told you I would hurt you, Adam. Don't throw that at me." She spoke with a fire in her eyes.

I loved the way my name rolled off her tongue but hating the words that followed. She was right, but so wrong too.

"You're afraid." I realized.

"What?"

"You're afraid because you love me too, and you don't know what to do. You love Justin, but he's safe. I'm a chance and you're not used to taking chances with your heart. With your career? For sure. With you vulnerable heart? Hell no." I stared her down, it all finally dawning on me.

"I love Justin, I can't do this." She mumbled, sounding unsure.

"If you had really loved him, you wouldn't have touched me last night." I told her.

"It was the break up, I needed to feel something."

"Maybe that's true. But you can't tell me you wont regret walking out that door."

"Doesn't mean I won't do it." She said softly but with conviction.

"I'll always want you and I'll always fight for you. Something has hurt you before, and I will find out what. And when I do, I'll win your heart completely." I whispered, my hand tracing her silk cheek.

A single tear fell from her eye as she looked away from me, "You deserve better."

With that, she turned and walked out the door. Leaving me to wonder how many more times I could handle losing the one woman I ever truly loved before I broke.
