As the sun began to rise we had made it. Link took out the map and looked it over, handing me the reigns to steer Epona. "Well," He said looking up and to the left. "(Y/n) let's get down." He said helping me down, smiling softly. I looked at the rocks with wide eyes. "Link, this could be my home!" I whispered running towards it, hearing Link mutter, "Doubt it." Behind me. I sighed and went through the tunnel and out on the other side. The dirt was dry and cracked below my feet, the town—or what was left of it— seemed deserted. Windows were destroyed and buildings were falling apart. I spotted a bokoblin and took out my bow, shooting it. Now that I thought about it, there were so many bokoblin. Link crept up behind me. "Let's kill them all before we see who else might be here. I think there's about twenty. Nineteen, since you just offed one." I nodded and held up my bow with an arrow loaded up. "Time for some fun." I whispered.
I finally struck the last bokoblin, my arrow sinking through its heart. It fell back into a window and vanished. I stood tall and smiled to myself. "This is a very quaint town, I wonder why it was abandoned." I said aloud, Link bit the inside of his cheek. "I think it's because it was overrun by monsters." He said softly. "The town was decimated by them, and I sincerely think there's only one resident left." Link led me out to the last home we hadn't checked yet. There stood a little old woman, looking around curiously before spotting Link and I.
"Wait, are you...?" The woman gasped and clapped her hands together happily, smiling broadly. "The savior! You're the savior! Forgive me for not opening my door, this village was so overrun I was in fear for my life." I looked at Link confused. "Him?" I asked slowly, the woman nodded. "Yes! Oh yes, I am Impaz. My name comes from the one who founded this village so long ago. It was once a home to a proud tribe that served the royal family for centuries. It fell into decline as soon as it became infested with dangerous beasts, we were unable to defend ourselves because of the peaceful ways we adapted to." The woman looked at Link with narrowed eyes.
"Is your name Link?" Impaz asked suddenly, Link stiffened and I nodded. "Yeah, it is.
"And you must be (Y/n)."
"You're correct, how do you know our names?" I asked cautiously, Impaz smiled. "The girl," she whispered, I sighed in relief. "You saved her then? I'm glad." Impaz said happily. "She's worried about you," Link said. "Ilia, that's her name." The old woman nodded and took out a necklace. "By royal order I am not allowed to leave until a certain person arrives. No matter what terrible fate is visited upon it. Please return this to her," Link took it with shaky hands. "Thank you, this means so much to me." He whispered and knelt down to hug the woman. I watched with a soft smile as he pulled away.Link went ahead, studying the charm as he walked. I turned to Impaz with a soft frown. "May I have a word?" I asked softly. She nodded as I sighed. "I was wondering, do I look familiar to you at all? In any legend, story, painting? Something?" I asked, my voice cracking in desperation. The woman studied me carefully. "(E/c) eyes, (h/c) hair... (s/c) skin." She murmured and nodded solemnly.
"I do. (Y/n), you're playing a dangerous game. You know that right? (Y/n) you.." My ears began to ring, I couldn't hear a word of what Impaz said. When I tried to read her lips, my vision blurred. "But I'm sure once it's all over you'll return to your people." I blinked and everything cleared up. I was so confused, what happened? I decided it must've been a dizzy spell, I'm probably dehydrated. "Thank you." I mumbled to Impaz before running after Link for a drink of water.
We returned just as the sun set over the canyon of Kakariko village. Link jumped down from Epona, took my hand, holding it tightly. We walked into the hut, Link broke away from me as I stood to the side watching. "Ilia?" He said softly, the girl looked up. Link took out her charm and gently pushed it in her hand. "This was yours." He murmured, looking at her hopefully. Ilia blinked and looked down at the charm, her eyes widening. I... I knew you once. Yes, this feels so familiar the scent of hay. Long ago when we were young you and I... You were always there. You were always beside me. Link!"
