I don’t know what I expected to happen after the night Harry had stayed over. I guess I thought that he and Sydney were going to break up, but they didn’t. I would have even settled for Harry and me acting like friends again, but he seemed even more distant than before and I was confused as ever.
Sydney, on the other hand, was completely icing me out. She hadn’t said one word to me since that night and poor Olivia as stuck in the middle. I knew she was trying her best not to choose sides, but if she so much as asked me to pass her the salt I knew Sydney would flip. So I decided it would be easier if I just didn’t speak to either of them.
I found myself spending increasing amounts of time in my room not talking to anyone which is why I was surprised to hear my phone ringing one night when I was alone in the flat.
“Hey it’s Zayn.”
“I have caller ID thanks.” I didn’t mean to sound rude, but it had been a while since I had social interaction and it seemed like I forgot how to communicate with other human beings.
“Okay there sassy pants I was just calling to see if you wanted to go out for dinner with Perrie and I tomorrow.” Sometimes I wonder how Zayn gets labelled as the mysterious one, because out of all the guys he’s the one I connected with the most.
“I don’t know if you’ve heard but I’ve become a hermit. That means any activities that involve other human beings are off limits.”
“Oh come on, it will be fun.” Zayn pleaded.
“Why should I go Zayn? I’m just going to be a third wheel.”
“You should go because I know you don’t actually want to be alone as you say you do.” He hit the nail on the head with that one. “And second you won’t be a third wheel”
“Fifth wheel?” I asked being completely difficult.
“I was thinking more along the lines of a double date.”
“Are you forgetting the fact that I am completely and utterly single? Thanks for reminding me by the way.”
“I am aware of that fact so if you’re willing I thought you’d let me set you up with someone.”
“I’m not exactly looking for a relationship right now, thanks for the offer though.” I was about to hang up, but Zayn was quick to speak, stopping me from pushing end call.
“I’m only asking you because Matt wanted me to.”
“As in Matt from the other night Matt?”
“Yes that Matt. He’s wanted to see you again since that night and he’s been nagging me to call you about it. It’s getting right proper annoying if you ask me.” I didn’t know how I felt about that. I mean Matt was seriously cute, but that didn’t mean I wanted to go out with him.
“But before you say yes, or no for that matter, you should know that he and Harry are not on the best of terms.”
That made my mind up. “I’ll go.” Hey I never said I was a saint.

By the time Friday night rolled around I was beyond nervous. I really didn’t know what to expect from the evening and flirting was so not in my realm of things that I am good at. Awkward was what I was good at and that’s a fact.
