I heard the squeals before I even entered the flat. I opened the door to see my roommates jumping up and down in the living room.

“What’s happening?” I asked, not really in the mood to be sharing their enthusiasm right now.

Olivia looked at me and practically yelled, “Harry asked Sydney to be her date to the awards ceremony next week! EEEE!” And then she started jumping up and down again. I didn’t know what this awards ceremony was but I knew that I’d rather vomit than join in their jumping escapades.

“Oh wow!” I sounded pretty unenthusiastic I’m not going to lie, but they didn’t seem to care, or maybe they just didn’t notice because they were both so excited.

“We’re going shopping for a dress right now, want to come?” Olivia said still in her excited tone.

“Can’t. I have work right away.” I said, putting on a sad face, which wasn’t that hard, because that’s actually how I was feeling right now.

Thankfully, they left straight away so I didn’t have to pretend that I was happy for Sydney anymore. I went and got my laptop and lay down on the living room floor. I turned my music up loud and tried not to cry.

My phone rang, interrupting me from my pity party. I instinctively thought it was Harry, but that thought was dismissed as soon as I read the screen, it was from an unknown number.

            “Hello?”

“Hey it’s Zayn.” Well now I was confused.

“Oh hi Zayn. How’d you get my number?”

“Googled it. Anyways, this may be a little presumptuous seeing as we just met each other, but I was wondering if you would want be my date to this awards ceremony next week?” At first all I could think about was the fact that you could apparently find my number on Google, but then I remembered that Zayn had a girlfriend, wait no, a fiancé. So why was he asking me to be his date?

             “What about Perrie?”

“She’s in L.A. recording the new album, so I’m on my own, but I’d love for you to come along, if you’ll have me that is?”

I mulled this idea over for a minute then said, “I would love to! As long as it’s okay with Perrie.” And then I added, “You better not expect me to wear some skimpy mini dress.” I said it like I was joking, but I was serious.

“Don’t worry Lou’s got it covered.” He replied.

“Lou? As in Teasdale? As in Lou freaking Teasdale?” I had a major lady crush on their stylist, she seems like the coolest person, I think everyone can agree on that.

“Yes that’s the Lou I’m referring to, is that a bad thing?”

“No, it’s a great thing, Lou is a goddess.” I said and Zayn laughed. His laugh was really different from Harry’s. It was a lot softer, and quiet. Not that it was a bad thing, just making observations here.

“So it’s a yes then?” He asked.

“It is an absolute yes!” I hung up and a wide grin spread across my face. I felt like I hadn’t smiled in days.

                                                                             ***

I went over to Lou’s place early. Apparently getting ready for these things takes hours. I had no idea. I was a no fuss person when it came to appearances so the whole pampering thing was really new to me.
