You know that feeling when you first wake up and you are completely disoriented because you think you’re in someone else’s bed and you have a moment of panic before you realize that you are where you are supposed to be? Well that’s how I woke up, except for the fact that I was in someone else’s bed. Harry’s bed.
What was I thinking? My groggy mind was trying to make sense of my decision to crash at Harry’s last night. My friendship with Harry was the reason my best friend hated my guts so naturally I decided to sleep in his bed to make things better. That’s Alix logic for you.
But the odd fact of the matter was that I didn’t feel bad about my decision. That either meant that I no longer cared about having a friendship with Sydney or that I cared about Harry so much that I was willing to sacrifice my existing relationships. Or maybe that was the same thing.
I rolled over and saw that I had three missed calls and a text from Olivia. I listened to the voicemails, all of which were asking if I was okay and that she was sorry about what happened last night. I sent a quick text telling her that I was fine and that I was going to lay low for a while. I honestly wanted nothing to do with that situation right now.
The door creaked open just as I pushed the send button on my phone and Harry poked his head in. “Oh great, you’re up.” He said as he walked into the bedroom carrying a tray with tea and breakfast.
“Breakfast in bed!” I exclaimed. “If you keep this up, I just might stay here forever.” I said, not really thinking about my words, but then blushing when I realized I wouldn’t mind if I stayed forever.
Harry muttered something and I gave him a quizzical look but he just shrugged it off as he took a seat on the bed. I didn’t press the subject further, but I could have sworn he said: forever wouldn’t be so bad.
“So what are you up to today?” I asked, not wanting conversation to turn serious. The longer I could put off talking about the future of our relationship, the better. I’m all for avoiding responsibilities.
“Well actually I’m about to head out the door. Got a big day at the studio. You?” Harry asked, popping a blueberry from the tray into his mouth.
“Class. Work. The usual exciting things.” I said with a sigh.
“Are you free for dinner?” Harry asked, but before I could say anything he said, “Now that you’re my new roommate you should know I think it’s important to eat at least one meal a day together.”
I looked at the breakfast sitting in front of us and as if reading my mind Harry said, “This doesn’t count.”
“I’ll make sure I’m free then.” I said with a grin.
“Okay great!” Harry said and then looked at me. He didn’t say anything but pulled a set of keys out of his pocket. He cleared his throat a little awkwardly and said, “These are for you.”
They clanged as I reached out and grabbed them. The moment seemed like it could turn serious so I tried to lighten the mood by saying, “So, when’s my house warming party?”
Harry chuckled, “I think I’m all partied out.” He said as he gestured to the now purpling bruise on his cheekbone.
“Ah, don’t worry, next time I’ll be there to protect you.” Harry gave me a skeptical look. “I’m serious, I throw a mean knife-hand-strike.” I said as I struck a ninja pose.
