I didn’t know if Matt thought we were a thing or not but we ended up walking into the party with his arm around me. I was hoping he didn’t think that this ‘relationship’ was going anywhere because I didn’t want it to.
As I have already discussed, I thought that he was kind of a jerk. Yes, he was cute, but really not my type. I guess I only came with him because I hoped Harry would be there and this time I was determined ‘have the last word’ as they say.
If I had any common sense at the time I would have realized that I came to the party with Matt for all the wrong reasons entirely, but apparently I’d tossed my brain out with the trash this morning.
I had never been to a glow party before but as soon as we walked into the house I saw that everyone was covered in patterns of glowing paint. “This is so neat!” I exclaimed, my mind whirring with ideas of body art to draw on myself.
“I think it’s lame. I’m only here for the drinks.” Matt said like he was trying to be cool. I just shook my head at him and left him standing in the porch. Just because we came to the party together didn’t mean that I had to put up with his crap.
Before I could leave Matt and walk over to the painting table I felt someone grab my wrist with an intense force, it took me by surprise.
“What’s that?” Sydney asked in an accusatory tone. It was clear she was getting a better look at the glowing tattoo on my hand. “Did you draw this on?” Her grip was tight on my wrist, if she held on much longer my hand was going to turn purple.
“It’s actually kind of permanent.” I said yelling over the music.
“But Harry has the same one.” She looked confused, still gripping my wrist.
“It’s a UV tattoo. Harry and I got them together, back before anyone knew we were friends.” Thinking about it now, it seemed like a lifetime ago. I was so caught up in reminiscing that I didn’t see the look of pure hate cross my best friend’s eyes.
“Why didn’t you tell me!?” The music was loud, but I knew her yelling wasn’t so I could hear here clearly, it was because she was angry.
“Honestly because I forgot it was there.” I guess they saying out of sight out of mind really is true.
“You betrayed me!” Did that sound a little dramatic to anyone else or was it just me?
“Sydney this tattoo has nothing to do with you! We got them before he even knew who you were!” I said trying to talk some reason in her.
“Just stop! I don’t want to hear anymore.” And with that she stormed off in the other direction leaving me standing alone in the middle of the dance floor. I looked down at the glowing anchor shape on my hand and it felt like it was burning a hole through to the other side.
I was still staring at my hand when Matt came up behind me. “Is everything alright?” He didn’t sound concerned, more so like he felt obligated to ask me if I was okay. “I need another drink.” I said as I walked past him, not wanting to talk anyone.
I went upstairs where it was a lot quieter. It was a pretty large house actually, but I guess that’s the perks of fraternizing with members of One Direction.
I was about to head back downstairs when I hear familiar voices coming from down the hall. I walked closer to the voices and then realized that I was listening to Harry and Sydney having a yelling match behind closed doors.
