~The heart and mind must be united to love~
Dawn, the earliest time of day for the Newgates. Thatch is the first to start the day cooking breakfast for everyone, and soon after, Marco rises for work at the office. The trio brothers don't awaken until seven which is why the elder duo found it weird to see Sabo pouring tea at such an hour.
"You're up early." Marco started.
"I couldn't sleep. I barely got any shut-eye." Sabo plops seat on the island table, slouching over his cup as he waits for the tea to settle.
"Stressed out about work?" Thatch assumed.
"No, it's something else. Yesterday I met the most stunning woman I ever laid eyes on."
Both Marco and Thatch quirk an interesting brow.
"Finally found the one, eh? First Ace, and now you?" The brunette sighs content. "Things are looking up."
"Not exactly." Sabo disheartened. He shamefully hangs his head, squeezing the mug as he stares at his reflection. "The thing is...the girl I'm interested in belongs to another."
"Ah...." Is all Thatch said.
"So? Swipe her way. We Newgates know how to win a game of infidelity-yoi." Marco winked.
"That's the thing. It's not that I don't want to. It's the fact that I can't." Sabo's explanation remains cryptic for them to comprehend. Instead of beating around the bush, he says, "She is Ace's crush." Marco cringes while Thatch nearly drops the spatula over the shocking revelation.
"You've got to be kidding me? You've got a thing for (Y/n)-yoi?"
"The one time you find an attraction, and it had to be Ace's?" Thatch reminded.
"Not to mention she's a perfect match for him-yoi." Sabo objects with a grumble under his breath. What about him? He could be a possible suitor too if given the chance. "Listen, I understand it sucks to be in a position. You're going to have to learn to avoid temptation for Ace's sake." Marco consoled.
"When it gets hard, you can come to us. We'll help you out." Thatch added, serving him a plate of food.
What other choice did Sabo have? If only to preserve his brotherly bond. Regardless, he's grateful to have the love, and support of his family. He takes one final look into the liquid before drinking the rest "Thanks, guys. I'm going to work on some cases."
As he saunters out of the room, he comes into contact with you. He drops his gaze, recognizing your frame. His stomach drops wishing it wasn't. Not because he was trying to avoid you, but because you just came out of Ace's room which meant the worst possibility. Nonetheless, he forces a half smile.
"Sorry, Sabo, I didn't see you." You said.
The blonde waves his hand dismissively, "No, it's my fault. I was walking half asleep."
"Heh, it's like we're destined to bump into each other when we meet." You jested.
"Yeah." He pauses, "I had no idea you were here."
"Ace insisted I stay over since it was late." You said.
In a moment of jealousy he baits you with, "so you slept together?"
"Yes...to just sleeping. No to the sexual part. As I said, we're just friends." You reassured. He couldn't tell if you were lying. He barely knew you, but what reason is there to lie except to hide your walk of shame? He reluctantly accepted your explanation. In doing so, his heavy heart returned to relief. An odd occurrence he's never experienced and yet you had that ability to tug at his heartstrings. "I should get going." You said. "Later, Sabo." As you strode by, the sweet scent of coconut butter invades his senses causing him to lean against the wall like a smitten character. How longs to hold you. Just a simple taste of you will quench his desire.
