America's point of view

I woke up to the rebel alarms. Really? Maxon is almost done with the plans so this won't happen. He is going to be very upset.

I feel someone grip my arm. I turn my head and see Maxon. He lifts me out of the bed and I grab my robe and we run into the hall to the passage to the safe room.

I see men with guns. Oh no!

Our guards are surrounding them but they are surrounding us. One wrong move and this will end terribly.

Maxon pushes me behind him, using himself as a shield for me.

Our guards have their guns drawn, but so do the men surrounding us.

"What do you want?" Maxon asks.

But before they respond, Maxon is running, pulling me with him and our guards are shooting at them and they are attacking our guards.

Maxon and I run until we reach the safe room. He stops so I can go in first and then locks the door.

He plops down on the floor and puts his head in his hands and lets out a sigh. I can tell he is very upset.

"Maxon? Maxon, are you okay?" I ask.

He sighs. " I just— what is it that they want? What else could they possibly want? We don't even know who they are! They could either be New Asians, Southern rebels, or lower castes rebelling! That's not enough to narrow it down."

I sit beside him and put my hand on his back.

"Hey, we can do this. I have faith in us. We will put an end to these attacks. And yes, it may take time but—"

"We don't have time! We could be dead tomorrow if this keeps up! Do you know how frustrating it is to not be able to stop this?!" He cuts me off.

"I understand. I do. But we need to be patient. These things, like most, take time," I say.

"And we'll be okay," I add.

He sighs. "I just hate this,"

"I know Maxon, me too. But it won't be like this forever. We just need to finish the plans and hopefully that will put an end to all of this," I assure.

"How did I get so lucky?" He asks.

"I don't know," I joke.

We both lean in for a kiss.

We sit in silence for a little while, until we hear the door unlock. A guard walks in.

"Your majesties, you may return to your room now. There is some damage but that should be fixed soon.

"Thank you. Have you seen lady Marlee?" I ask.
I just want to make sure my best friend is alright.

"Yes ma'am. She and Officer Carter went to their room." He says.

That's a relief.

"Thank you."

We walked back to our room. We saw some damage, but it was nothing that couldn't be fixed.

I sighed and we walked into our room.

When we opened the door everything was a mess. Broken glass everywhere and furniture tossed around.

It was just too much I backed out of the room and ran down the hall.

"America!" Maxon called after me.

I don't know where exactly I was running to, but I just ran.

Somehow I ended up in the gardens. I collapsed near our bench. I I rested my head on the bench.

I sat there for a while.

I heard noises behind me. It could be a rebel. Do I even care anymore?

I heard the person sit beside me on the ground. They put there hand on my back. Maxon. I turned my head.

"I thought you'd be out here," he says.

I just shrugged.

"I'm sorry. The maids are working on our room right now. It should be done in-" he says.

I cut him off with a kiss.

"I love you," I say.

"I love you too."

"We'll be okay." He says.

"Yeah, we'll be okay."
