Mason's point of view
I wake up in the middle of the night, hearing something. I feel something move. What?
Once my eyes adjust I realize it's America.
"Why are you awake darling?" I ask.
I hear a sniffle. Is she...is she crying?
"America. What's wrong my dear? Are you alright?" I ask.
In the light from the window I can see her nod.
"It's nothing. I didn't mean to wake you. I'm sorry." She mumbled.
"Hey, it's alright. I'm right here. What's wrong?" I ask.
"I just..I don't know.." she mumbles.
"Well it seems like you have a very big problem," I say jokingly.
She elbows my chest from behind.
"Hey, okay, I'm sorry." I say.
I forgot how feisty she was.
"It's just when you were gone in New Asia. And then you got thrown in the dungeon..I just i was so worried. And this won't be the last time one of us is put in danger." She says.
She turns to face me.
She continues, "What about when we have children? It isn't safe here! We can't raise children in a place we don't even feel safe in! This is our home. We should be happy and safe and instead we have to run to a safe room half the time!"
"What if you wouldn't have come back?" She asks.
"What do you mean?"
"What if you would have died New Asia?" She asks.
"Well-"
"No. I know the answer, I looked it up the other day out of curiosity."
She continues, "I would have had to remarry! Since we have no heirs and I would have had to have an heir with them! Maxon, I can't do that! We can't take risks like that. I was terrified. I didn't know if my husband was okay or what was happening and I missed you!"
"Maxon, I love you more than anything. If something would have happened there...I just...I'm scared.." she says.
I hug her tightly.
"Darling, I'm sorry. I know you were stressed and worried. And you told me not to go in the first place. I know this." I say
I continue, "And I don't know what I would do if I lost you. There is no way I would have been able to remarry and produce an heir like required. If I lose you, that's it for me. I wouldn't be the same. So I know how worried you must have been."
"And I hate that you have to be scared in our own home. You have no idea how frustrated that makes me at the people who cause this distress." I add.
"Maxon, we have to fix this. We can't raise children in this war filled world we are in right now. So if getting in contact with the princess of New Asia will help, I agree that we should give it a chance." She says.
"We'll have another meeting in the morning about it. I really think it is our best option." I say.
"Well, I have full trust in you, so if that's what you think is best, I'm right beside you." She says.
"Thank you. I love you." I say.
"I love you too."
"Good night, my dear."
"Don't even start that." She jokes.
