Maxon's point of view"There is more to the suprise," she said.
We locked arms and walked back through the stairs and the old room.
We walked down the halls until we got to a door.
I knew what this door led to.
We walk out into the gardens. I look over at America and she just smiles. I love my wife so much.
We walk to our bench.
We both take a seat. For a while we just sit there. It's nice though I could just be quiet with her.
"I set up a picnic," she says, "Hopefully it will make up for the horrible food," she mumbles.
I chuckle, "I really don't know what you were taking about, it was delicious,"
"Whatever." She jokes.
We sit on the blanket next to the bench, and she sets up the food from the basket.
It is so nice to just go on a date and not be king and queen. To just be us. I smile taking in the moment.
The stars are shining above us.
"It's like the night we met," I say.
"I know, I wanted this to be special," she says.
The moonlight shines on her just like on that very first night. God, that was so long ago. Before we knew each other. Before we tugged our ears. Before my first kiss. Before we would meet up. When there were 35 girls in the palace I knew nothing about.
I sigh. I got so lucky that she was selected to come.
When we would give secret looks and meet up. How did we not know we were totally in love?
I guess love really is blind.
We are the food. Of course she just had to have strawberry tarts.
I chuckle when she eats them.
"Don't they just make you want to cry," she jokes.
I remember our bet.
I just chuckle at her and continue to eat.
"Come on let's sit on our bench," she says.
Once we are sitting she looks at me. She looks so nice with the moon shining on her.
"Maxon, I got you a gift," she says.
"America, you didn't have to give me anything, I alre-"
"Shh." She interrupts.
I raise my hands in surrender.
"The thing is..."
"It won't be here for nine more months"
"Dear that okay you didn't have to get me-"
I stop.
I just look at her. She can't mean..
My eyes move to her stomach. I just sit there for a moment. I can't move. I'm frozen in my spot. My eyes don't move from her tummy.
"Maxon...are you mad?.." she whispers.
I look up at her with the hugest smile out of all the smiles of my entire life.
"I...no..I just..woah." I stumble.
She giggles.
It's then I feel my tears pouring out of my eyes.
I shoot up and lift her up and spin her around.
She giggles.
"You're happy?" She asks.
"My love, this is the best news I have ever heard in my whole life. I'm going to be a dad!!!!"
"I'm so glad you are happy," she says.
"THANK YOU" I shout, spinning her around.
Once I put her down we sit down again. Then it hits me.
"America..."
"Yes?"
"What if..what if I'm like my dad..?"
She grabs my hand and looks in my eyes.
"Maxon, you are nothing like him. You are the kindest man I've ever met. You are so loving and protective to those you love. I pity the person who tries to mess with our child because I know you'll be there," she says.
"I'm just scared."
"You have nothing to be worried about."
"Well I wouldn't say nothing, we are still going to have some America juniors running around. Who knows what this child will get into," I joke.
"This is true," she says.
"I love you."
"I love you."
