Amon POV
I sat opposite the bed, just watching her. It's been three days since I bought Raven to Raum. Three days and no change. Whatever she was going through, she wouldn't let me touch her anymore. The first day she was unconscious, I was able to touch her and clean her as best as I could without violating her privacy. But after that, I couldn't get near her. The closest I got was by the edge of the bed. From the moment I reached out to touch her, a pulsating energy lashed out at me, putting up a shield like defense around her.
After it happened the first time I immediately spoke to Ronove of it. His reasoning was that her body was protecting itself from anyone who might want to take her power while she was in her weakened form. I won't deny I reacted badly when he told me that. I punch him. But it wasn't even his fault. I was just a little bit more that hurt that Raven would defend herself against me. But after I calmed down I understood why.
She is the heir to a powerful bloodline. Being the first female heir to that bloodline, a lot of demons who wanted the throne just had to absorb her powers while she was gaining them. All the demon had to do was rape her while she was in that state and what was hers would be theirs. So I did understood the shield, just hated that it was there.
"Your majesty?" Marax called to gain my attention.
Looking up, I saw that he had a tray of food in his hands, holding it out for me. Normally when he brought my meals over, the cup of tea that I had with the meal would be so hot, tendrils of steam would be floating up from the cup. There was none this time. How long was he trying to gain my attention?
"Yes Marax. What seems to be the matter?" I asked, returning my attention to Raven.
"I apologise but the council would like to see you in the throne room. Apparently some matter has come up in one of the villages." He explained.
I sighed. So the time has come for me to show my face once again to the Kingdom. I can't keep putting it off and hiding while I looked after Raven.
"You need not worry sire. I will keep watch over her while you are with them. If anything, I will rush to you or King Ronove." He said bowing low.
I cracked a smile at that. No King could ask for a better manservant. Marax goes above and beyond just for me. Even doing more than is required of him to do. My adjustment as King would have been so much harder without him by my side. Seeing as how I was with Raven for the past three days, I needed to familiarise myself with what took place within the Kindom during that time. For that I needed to view Marax memories.
"Marax, may I?"
He looked confused at first but then nodded his consent once he realised what I was asking. Placing my hand on his head, I closed my eyes and concentrated. The demon's mind is filled with doors and rooms of memories and knowledge. If someone untrained attempted a memory scan, they could scramble that demons brain or possibly kill them if they delve too far and deep.
Finding the doors I needed, I entered them, quickly scanning what I needed to update myself. As soon as I acquired the knowledge I needed, I exited his mind. Thanking him, I left to meet with my council.
Marax POV
Amon isn't sleeping. Why isn't he? I watched as he left the ancient chambers. I will never call my King weak, but that doesn't mean he doesnt get drained. Keeping watch over his half blood mate is taking its toll on him. Especially when I know he doesn't eat the meals I bring for him.
The council members finally took notice of his absence after a fire storm occurred, leaving two close by villages in ruins. The King wasn't there to reassure the villagers. That was what got the council's attention. I do hope my memories provided enough information for Amon. I don't want him to be blindsided by anything the council may throw at him. Normally I would be there for the meeting with him. But he needed me here more than there.
Being a descendant of demon enchanters, the council members aren't even aware of Amon's bloodline. His green eyes are the biggest indicator. Which is why I had him hide his eye colour the moment he entered the castle walls for the first time. The villagers might not know about enchanters, but the council members do. Every time he met with the council members or anyone else in the castle, Amon's eyes would be crimson.
Glancing at the woman on the bed, the energy radiating off her was growing more powerful over the days. Amon never had to go through this, which is why both him and I needed Ronove's help and advice more than ever. The girl was his child after all. The girl was also the reason Amon smiles more when he's away from the council. The reason he isn't as cruel as he once was when he became King. The reason why he's even King.
In all honesty, I don't know whether to thank the girl or hate her. Yes it is true that because of her existence that Amon was able to be King. But it is also true that because of her, he is at risk of losing everything. He's worked too hard to get where he has. I don't want him to loose it. I also want him to be happy no matter what. So if giving up the Kingdom and throne would make him happy beyond measure, who am I to stand in the way of his happiness. His happiness and safety is all that matters to me.
Sighing, I stood guard over the girl. "You better be worth all the trouble my King is going through. I will accept you as his mate and the heir to the throne. Not that I have a choice. Your resemblance to King Ronove is uncanny. Just please. Don't let anything happen to him. Protect him as best as you could. He loves you more than anything"
I spoke to her as though she was awake. It's not like she could even hear me. I hoped she did. An audible pulse suddenly resonated throughout the room. The red hue that surrounded the girl pulsated, growing larger and brighter with each pulse. A dome had solidified, forming around her.
The light intensified to the point where I had to shield my eyes. I heard a crackling sound, but I couldn't unshield my eyes to see what the sound was. Through my covered eyes I was still able to make out a little of the light, before it died down. Once I was sure there was no more bright light in the room to blind me, I uncovered my eyes, only to find the girl sitting upright on the bed.
Her eyes were still closed. Her hair that was standing on end for the past few days, had fallen about her body. She slowly opened her eyes, looking about the room, taking in her surroundings. When her gaze fell on me, her eyes were a deep, bright crimson. Brighter than any shade I've ever seen a demon possess.
Her eyes widen upon seeing me. I wanted to approach her to reassure her, but thought against the idea. The next thing I knew, the girl let out a terrified scream, I was thrown across the room and the girl had suddenly vanished. Oh dear Kings. Not good. This is really not good. Ronove would kill me for letting his daughter escape. What am I going to do now?
