Chapter 6: An Awkward Dinner

After 15 minutes of talking Kate comes in to grab us all for dinner. When I walk in I gaze my eyes across the room. It's quite big and it basically looks like a dinner hall that you would eat in at a camp. I motion to Ella asking where she wants to sit. She points to a table near the front of the room. I nod and walk over. Ella and I continue talking while we eat our food, which was brought to us. As I am talking I look around at all of the other people. My eyes fall of Jason, who is looking as gorgeous as ever. Him and Tom look as though they are talking. I have now idea what they are talking about but I don't really care.

"Hey April, are you in there?" Ella asks waving her hand in front of my face. "Wh-what, oh sorry what were we talking about?" I reply, blushing a little. I was staring at Jason and Tom for who knows how long. Ella sighs and shakes her head. "Which one is it?" she says. "What?! I mean I have know idea what your talking about. " I reply trying to look as innocent as I can. "April, It's obvious you have a crush on one of them so which one is it? I promise I won't tell anyone. You can trust me."

I hesitate. "Fine. It's Jason, I've had a crush on him since since year 3." I say blushing a lot now. I see that Ella is thinking about something. I can only assume it isn't gonna be good. "Hey Jason, Tom!" she calls. "Why don't you come sit with us?" They turn their heads. "Sure." Tom replies. "We'll just grab our food, give us a sec." I smile at them with clenched teeth and then turn to Ella. "Why did you do that? We were perfectly fine before." I say with annoyance. She sighs and shakes her head. "It's obvious you really like him. He doesn't know because boys are stupid. You need to make a move. Take control. Besides, Japril needs to happen. It's the cutest thing since Ollie and Emma got together. #Ellie for life!" Ella says with a smug look on her face. "Japirl?! Seriously, you made a ship name for us right on the spot?" I say, my face getting really hot now. "That's right. Oh look they are coming over here now. Time to make your move." Ella replies nudging me.

I try to control my breathing as they walk over. Finally, I get my breathing under control just as they approach the table. "Hey Ella, hey April." Jason says as he sits down opposite me. "H-hi Jason, Tom. So how are you liking this so far? I mean this experience. It's pretty exciting isn't it?" I say feeling more nervous then I show. "Oh yeah this is very cool, I never thought that I would ever get an opportunity like this." Tom says with excitement in his eyes. "I agree, oh Jason, April has something she wants to tell you." Ella says smiling. For a second my heart stops beating. Now I have to come up with something to say. And fast. I can't say to him, 'I have a really big crush on you and I have since year 3.' What am I going to do.

He turns his head. His eyes are moving from Ella to me. "What do you wanna say April?" he asks curiously. "Oh I just wanted to say....umm....that I think it is really cool how.....um...its really cool how we have both been invited to come here. Same with Ella and Tom, we all go to the same school, and we are all going to get experimented on. What I'm trying to say is that its cool that we will have someone to talk to after the experiment. When we go back to school. That's what I wanted to say." I reply awkwardly trying to hide my embarrassment. I look out of the corner of my eye and see that Ella has a look that is like. 'OMG why didn't she tell him the truth.' Although I did tell the truth. I meant what I said about us all being here together. However that wasn't what I wanted to tell him.

"Oh that's nice April." Jason says smiling. When he smiled I felt like my body had melted away. His smile was so charming it was unreal. I smile back. "Thanks Jason." For once I don't feel that awkward around Jason. Its like this smile made me feel better. I could tell that Ella was a bit annoyed that I didn't tell him. I knew that she would steal me to talk later.

We talked 20 more minutes. We finish our dinner and had dessert. We are just about to start a new conversation when Kate comes in and rings a bell. "Okay guys." she says. "It's time for the experiment."
