My eyes flutter open. I look around the room. Where am I? What is going on? Suddenly I remember where I was and what was going on. I look to my right and see Jason sitting up. He looks exhausted. I am to. I'm about to look at Tom when I hear something come from the front of the room. I look over and realise that this noise was coughing. I see Ella get out of bed and head towards the noise. "Ella!" I say sitting up. "You shouldn't go over there. It might not be safe." I try to get out of the bed but I'm still really drowsy. I collapse, but before I get to the ground I feel a strong pair of hands around my waste. "Careful April, we are all still drowsy from last night." I look up to see Jason holding me. Inside I am riding the rollercoaster of emotion. But on the outside I just smile at him and say "Thanks."
I carefully get up and make my way to the front of the room. As I get closer I see that a boy maybe a year younger that me is coughing. A lot. "Ella?" I ask. "Is he okay?" She turns to look at me. "I'm not sure April we need to get a professor. Well anyone. Tom, Jason. Make sure he doesn't die. Come on April!" Ella says frantically. Ella begins to run to the door but instead of running like a normal human, she gets there in less than a second. I open my mouth in shock. "H-how did you do that?" I say completely blown away. "I-I....I'm not sure." she replies. "But we can't worry about this now, we need to get someone." she continues to run, slower this time and motions for me to come. I catch up and we speed walk down the hall.
"Hey April?" Ella says as we walk. "Can you please not tell anyone about what just happened. I'm not sure if we are meant to know what our powers are yet and I don't want to get in trouble." I smile at her. "My lips are sealed." she gives me a grateful smile. We turn the corner, me out in front. I feel a force in front of me. I hear a groan. I look up to see one of the professors groaning. "Oh I'm very sorry-" he cuts me off. "What are you two doing over here? You're meant to be in the experimenting room." Before I can say anything Ella speaks. "We know professor but someone is coughing and we're not sure whats going on. We think he needs help." His facial expression changes from confusion to shock. "Well then lead the way."
We lead him back to the experimenting room and to the coughing boy. "Here he is" I say as we walk up to his bed. He looks different from when he first started coughing. He now has red spots all over his body, well everywhere I can see anyway. The professor goes up to him. He reaches out to touch him but when he does the boy begins to choak. "Oh my gosh!" Ella screams. "Help him! He's gonna die! Help him!" Suddenly the room goes quiet. "Is he dead?" I ask looking closer at the boy. The professor checks his pulse. He sighs and pulls his hand away. He turns to look at everyone. "He's dead." he announces with a blank face. I can tell he isn't sad or happy. He just doesn't care.
I see Ella put her hands over her mouth. Her eyes are tearing up. I quietly go over and wrap my arms around her. She even didn't know this person yet she was the only one who actually tried to help him. "At least it wasn't me you, Jason or Tom." I say to her. She sighs. "Yeah, I guess your right." The professor that we brought in quickly rushes out the room.
He soon comes back with Professor Winston and Kate. He explains what happened and as he does I stomp over to Kate and the professor. "You said nothing bad was going to happen, and yet this poor boy has died! All because of this stupid experiment! If you had told us that we could have possibly died maybe that boy could have lived! But no you decided to lie to us and now this boy is dead! And who knows maybe more of us will die too!" I scream with anger and frustration. I can't believe these stupid scientists have let this boy die. "April.." the professor begins. "No! I won't hear it you need to make it up to us! Prove that it was worth doing this experiment. Until you do I'm not gonna listen to anything you have to say about this unfortunate event." I say turning my head and walking over to Ella.
"You okay?" Ella asks. I shake my head. "I'll be fine. They just need to get there act together." I reply. I see Ella smirking. "Sass." she says. "I like it. You should be sassy more often. It suits you." I let out a laugh and say. "Thanks Ella. I needed that." She rolls her eyes. "Anytime." "Attention everyone." Kate says from the front of the room. "Everyone go get dress so we can head to the training dome, so we can find out your powers."
