I'd Still be Loving You

She was in the mental hospital for 10 days. The light in her eyes were gone, her lips no longer curved into a smile, but into a frown. The spark in her soul was smothered. All that was left was an empty shell. Jimmy woke up one morning to the sounds of muffles sobs downstairs. In the dark corner of the country styled dining room sat Emily, holding her beloved rabbit of 10 years in her arms.

"Emily? What're you doing?" Jimmy asked in a hush whisper. Emily looked up at him with flooding eyes full of sadness and hurt.

"It's Bob, Jimmy... I've had him for 10 years... The meds aren't working anymore...and look at his leggies.." She said in a sorrow tone as she gently flipped the delicate animal onto his back, exposing his back legs. The skin was showing, no fur was left on his legs. A foul stench polluted the air, as Jimmy carefully scanned the rabbit with his eyes, looking at the infections.

"Ugh, he stinks.. The shampoo isn't working anymore?"

Emily choked back a sob before she spoke.

"No..his body isn't responding to it anymore.. I've done everything I can.. He hurts.."

The room fell silent, except for Bob's little snores.

"I'm having him put.." Emily was unable to finish her sentence before she burst into tears, burying her face in Bob's soft coat. Her face was quickly kissed by Bob's soft, wet, pink bunny tongue. All it did was make her heart even more hurt.

The dreaded day came. Jimmy watched her as she gently wrapped Bob in a horse blanket, and went into the car, and drove off to the vet.

The clinic was quiet as they sat in that awful room. Emily's parent's sniffing every once in a while to hold back tears. Then the Dr. came in, and Emily's heart plummited.

"So Bob.. not doing so good anymore? Poor old man. So there's two ways we can do this. We can do an injection in a vein which takes the medicine directly to the heart, only problem is the only easily located vein to do that is in the ear." Emily shook her head, causing tears to fall to the floor.

"The second way is to insert the injection into the stomach. The body will then absorb it, making the brain shut down first, then everything follows after that. That takes about 10-15 minutes."

"Let's do that way then."

The injection was given. Bob laid his plump little head on Emily's chest as his last minutes on Earth came closer. Each minute, he got more limp, and his breathing became slower. Emily just stoked his soft, brown fur, and his long, floppy ears.

"I love you so much Bob." she said as she kissed his head. At this time, it had been 15 minutes, and he was still hanging on. His body had gone completely limp at this time, and breathing became next to nothing.

He started to snore during his last minutes, and kissing Emily's chest. Tears fell onto his thick coat, tears of sorrow, and tears of love. Her eyes watched Bob as he took his final breath, and flew high into heaven.

She held his body close, crying even more.

"Oh Bob... I'm so sorry Bob...I love you so so much Bob..." she wept. She held him close for around five minutes, and placed his body on the table. She stooped down to his eye level, and kissed him one last time.

"I'll see you in a few weeks Bob.." she said quietly. She held his ears and booped his nose for the last time, and planted one more long, and loving kiss on his head, and they walked away from him.

"He'll be back soon, Emily." her Dad reassured her, with tears in his eyes.

"Yeah..but not the way I'd like him to be...He'll be ashes.." she said again before bursting into tears.

The whole house was silent. And a soul was now incomplete.

A/N: This really happened, i just thought it would fit in with the story with Emily. The picture showed is my rabbit Bob who did pass away, and this whole story is true.
