Emily sat quietly on her bed, staring at a small pendant in her hand. Tears became hot in her eyes and then frigid as they fell down her porcelain face. Her gentle blue eyes scanned the pendant with gentle intensity. Each sparkle would ignite grief in her heart. Her focus was taken away as she heard footsteps echoing up the stairwell. Emily quickly wiped away the tears and mucous from her nose, and put on a faint smile. Jimmy opened the door with a smile.
"Hello there, love." Jimmy said in a bubbly voice. Emily's heart began to lighten at the sound and sight of him. Emily's eyes followed Jimmy as he sat down on her bed with a gentle thud. Jimmy wrapped his long, slender arms around Emily's torso, and pulled her close for a tight hug. Emily gripped the pendant tighter in her hand so she wouldn't drop it.
As they were close in a tight embrace, Jimmy planted a gentle, tender kiss on Emily's temple. Jimmy sat back, at gazed at Emily with pure love. Emily opened her hand to look at the pendant again, which caught Jimmy's attention.
"Whatcha got there love?" he asked as his emerald eyes looked into her hands. Emily flattened out her hand, showing off the heart shaped, blue charm. Jimmy smiled.
"A heart?"
"It's not just a heart Jimmurs, it's Bob." Emily said with a faint smile. A smile that showed love and pain at the same time. A smile that showed joy and grief all at once. Emily scooted up into Jimmy's lap like a child, Jimmy smiled and embraced her as much as he could.
"You see those sparkles?" Emily said as she pointed her slim finger at the charm. Jimmy nodded his head, causing his wavy, jet black hair to sway back and forth, tickling the back of Emily's neck, causing her to let out a small giggle.
"Those are his ashes. They sparkle because-"
"Because he was a bright bunny because his Momma was the brightest thing in his life." Jimmy said, cutting off Emily.
Emily looked up into Jimmy's eyes, tears once again welling up in her eyes, but a smile crept across her face.
"He was the light of my life too." Emily said quietly. She then grabbed Jimmy's hands, and held them to her lips, and gently placed a kiss on them.
"When one light dims, another light appears. We can't live without light." Emily drifted off as she looked deep into Jimmy's tender eyes.
"I wouldn't live without you, Jimmy. You're my light that is giving me life. Giving me hope again." Jimmy smiled lovingly back down at his fiancee. He took his slender hand, and tucked a piece of her auburn hair behind her ear.
"The exact same goes to you, Mrs.Page." Jimmy said with a smile as he lifted up her left hand, and kissed her engagement ring. Emily felt heat rush into her cheeks as she blushed.
"Speaking of, when do you want to get married?" Jimmy asked. Emily let out a nervous chuckle as she thought.
"Wow, I honestly don't know Jimmy. I'm not even outta school yet!"
"I know love, I wasn't rushing anything. Hell, we could get married in 50 years, and I'd still love you and treat you like you were my wife." Jimmy said with a reassuring smile.
"Hey, do you mind if I play guitar for a bit love?" Jimmy asked Emily. Emily laughed and motioned him towards her guitars.
"Please! I'd love to hear you play." Emily said with excitement in her voice. Jimmy chuckled as he slid the guitar strap over his shoulders, and sat down on an extra amp. The room was silent as Jimmy flicked on a Marshall amplifier, causing the only noise to be a constant "buzz".
Emily laid on her stomach on her bed in anticipation, with her chin resting in her hands, like a child waiting for their favourite cartoon to come on the television. Jimmy cracked his fingers before he played.
Once his fingers touched the neck of the guitar, it was like the gates of heaven opened. The way he played the guitar made it sound like an angel was sent down from above to bless all of those who heard the music coming from Jimmy's hands. He swayed back and forth with the music he was making with his godly talent.
He made the strings of the guitar sing with soul as his fingers waltzed along the frets. Then Jimmy stopped playing. The world seemed to almost stop as he did so. His emerald eyes looked deep into Emily's blue eyes.
"Jimmy that was beautiful." Emily said in awe. Jimmy smiled as he lifted the guitar over his shoulders.
"Well a beautiful song needs a beautiful name." Jimmy said as he stood up and walked back over to Emily. Jimmy put his hand against Emily's cheek.
"So I'll call the song, 'Emily'." Jimmy said in a sweet whisper. Emily threw herself into Jimmy's arms. Jimmy chuckled and lifted Emily up bridal style.
"Now Mrs.Page, lunch?" Jimmy said with a chuckle. Emily nodded her head quickly, and both of them ran to the kitchen like children in a candy store, with both of their hands still together.
