It was on Friday morning. I woke up to a room filled with the sun rays and Roy's scent. His scent was intoxicating. I shifted my gaze to the door and gasped at the sight before me. Roy was leaning on the door looking at me intensely. I flushed and sat on the bed. There was a weird silence between us.
“You were sleeping so peacefully. I didn’t want to wake you up. I'm sorry for disrupting your sleep.”
“It’s okay. I have had a restful night and you didn’t wake me up anyway.”
He came towards me and sat on the bed. He was so close and his scent was driving me crazy. He held my chin and I recoiled. I shifted on the bed to get away from him. He gave me an amused look but that did not bother me.
“That asshole! Why would he hurt you this badly? He is going to get it from me. Shit!”
“No Roy. Don’t get into a fight with him. He is just not worth it. I'm okay.”
“You are not okay Jackline. It’s evident he hurt you badly and all you do is recoil from everybody thinking they are going to hurt you too. I will make him pay for this.”
“Don’t you get it Roy? Mike is in my past now and we should leave the past behind. It doesn’t help to bring up issues from the past. I said I’m okay!”
I hadn’t realized that I was shouting at him. The mention of Mike's actions was driving me crazy. He was in my past and I wanted him to be buried in the past. He was not in my present anymore.
“I'm sorry if I’m being a jackass but I can’t help it Jackline. I have known you for only two days but I care. At least try and appreciate that before you get all worked up. And for your information, I will still look for him and make him pay for what he did to you. Just mark my words!”
It was clear that he was angry. His shouting made me recoil more. I was a bitch for shouting at him in his own house. He noticed my fear and looked at me with sympathy.
“I’m sorry for shouting at you Roy. I'm in your house and all I do is shout at you. This is so bad of me. Sorry about that.”
He came closer and held my face in his hands. The feeling was good and at the same time confusing. He looked at me straight in my eyes and I tried to turn my head away but he didn’t allow me to.
“Please look at me Jackie. I'm the one who should apologize for shouting at you. I will never do anything to hurt you. I just need you to trust me and erase all that fear and discomfort you have when it comes to me. I will do anything in my power to protect you. I will not let anyone hurt you again. You are now in safe hands.”
I managed to murmur a thank you and he let me go. I had been holding my breathe for long and I let it out. I don’t know why I felt some truth in his promise. I know I was being paranoid to recoil from him but I couldn’t help it. Men were not to be trusted anymore.
“I'm off to work. I already have your papers and I will try and get you a job. In the meantime, make yourself comfortable and feel free in this house. I will see you after work.” He gave me a warm smile and made for the door.
He seemed to remember something and turned to look at me and gave me the same killer smile.
“Mind going out with me tonight? You need to relax.” His gaze was so intense and I blushed.
“What type of an out are we talking about?”
“A dinner thing or something of that sort. Is it a yes or a no?” The smile he gave me was enough to give him a yes but I wouldn’t make it that easy.
“Am I allowed to give my answer when you come back from work? I need to think about that.”
“It’s okay! Take your time but remember I don’t bite. I will see you in the evening.”
We both laughed at his statement and he left the room. I was left there smiling foolishly. I wondered how my day would be without him in the house. It would be a long day. Roy! Roy !Roy! What was he doing to me!
