THE UNKNOWN FUTURE

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

I woke up on Monday morning feeling excited. I was finally going to work. The weekend had gone by fast and I had been trying to avoid bumping into Roy after my drunken state with no success. I was still embarrassed though he did everything to make me feel better. I had began to like him but I wouldn’t give in to him that easily. I had to be sure about his intentions. The thought of him made me giggle like a teenager. Was I in love? No way! That had to wait. After all, all men are assholes. Apart from Roy maybe. What made me exempt him from the rest! Of course he wasn’t an angel. He was like all the others! I knew I was lying to myself likening him to other men. He was just perfect.
I searched through the wardrobe for something to wear. Roy had really done justice to my wardrobe and all the clothes in there were elegant but I wanted something that would give me an impressive and outstanding look. It was my first day at work and I needed that look. I finally settled for a red zip accent sheath dress, black thong and a black lacy perfect-fit bra and black stilettos.
I stepped into the shower and turned the metallic dial on releasing thousands of steamy droplets on my hair. The water trickled down my back  and it gave me a tickling sensation. I closed my eyes and  fantasized with Roy scrubbing my body with a cloth and the  body wash and I smiled. I could feel his warm fingers on my body. I felt elated and a tinge of excitement flowed through my body. I was interrupted by a knock on the bathroom door.
“Morning Jackie? We are running a bit late. Try and be fast please.” Roy's sound came from outside the door.
“Okay Roy, I will be with you in a few.” I said with a grin on my face. It was all a fantasy. Roy had such an effect on me. He was everywhere I went and I had been fantasizing in the shower. So stupid of me. I walked out of the shower and dressed fast. When I was done, I looked at myself in the mirror and smiled at my elegance. Things had changed and I was happier. I walked out of the room and went to Jane's room. She was playing with Braden. I gave him a Peck and went to the living room. Roy was pacing around and his face was characterized by a smile when he saw me.
“Sorry for making you late. I overslept on my first day at work.” I said apologetically.
“It’s okay dear. I just like being there before the others. Can we go?” he said offering his hand to me.
“Sure.” I gave him a warm smile and took his hand. We walked towards the car and he opened the door for me. It had become like a norm. He went to his side and settled behind the wheel. Within few minutes, we were at his place of work. It was a glassy building and it reminded me of Roy's perfection. We walked out of the elevator into the reception and I noticed the two receptionists rising up and greeting Roy with respect but he just nodded and led me into a certain office. I read the label on the door and it was the HR's office.
The lady behind the computer rose up quickly on noticing our presence.
“Welcome sir,” the lady said looking straight at me.
“This is the lady I told you about on Friday Kate. Show her to her office and make sure that she is comfortable! Am I clear?” Roy said with a hard face. This was not the Roy I knew. He was so hard faced at work.
“ Okay sir! I will do what you asked.” Kate said humbly.
“Welcome Jackline! I hope you will not disappoint us. We believe in perfection here.” He gave me the same look that he had given kate and it was all weird for me but we were at work and I had to respond with respect.
“I will not disappoint sir!”
“ I hope so. I will see you around.” He said and left the office. These were two different people. The Roy at work was so different from the one I had gotten used to. That was a new twist for me.
“Welcome Jackline! I will show you around.” Kate said kindly and led me outside.
She showed me around and we finally entered an elegant looking office.
“This will be your office jackie. You are now the new IT manager. Feel comfortable and if you need anything don’t hesitate to ask. I will leave you to get comfortable. I will see you around.”
“Thanks madam.”
She gave me a smile and left. I sat down to take in all that had just happened in less than one hour. I was an IT manager! How now! I had done IT but I hadn’t expected that. Someone always starts low. I expected a low paying job. I wouldn’t even mind being the tea girl but an IT Manager! All that was overwhelming. Where would I even start? Just how influential was he to get me a high position like that! He was a puzzle that I didn’t mind solving.
The phone rang and I picked it. A lady was on the phone.
“Hello madam Jackie? The CEO wants to see you. Kindly come to 6th floor.” She hanged up.
The first day and I was being summoned to the CEO's office! Was everything okay? Was I getting fired. I walked out of my new office and got into the elevator. We got to 6th floor and I got out. I was buzzed in and the lady at the reception smiled at me.
“You are Jackie, right? She asked with a bright smile.
I nodded and smiled back at her.
“Welcome to Lee's holdings. I'm Julie. The CEO is expecting you. That’s the office. Just get in.”
I knocked softly on the door and got in. I looked at the CEO and gasped involuntarily. Roy was seated on the couch staring intently at me. He seemed to marvel at my surprised look and his lips twitched in a smile.
“I know you will gasp forever so just close the door and have a seat.” He was smiling and having fun because of my reaction. I closed the door and continued standing.
“I’m here to see the CEO. I didn’t know I would find you here.” I said innocently.
He laughed and came towards me with a huge smile on his face. He stood so close to me that his cologne was intoxicating. He took my hand and led me to the couch. He sat down and made me sit on his laps. I tried to rise but he held me back.
“ please Roy. The CEO might get us in this situation and it’s so embarrassing. I don’t want to lose my job and it’s my first day here.” I gave him a beseeching look and he just laughed.
“Actually, you are sitting on his laps as we talk.”
“What! How now! This is not the time for jokes Roy!” My mouth was wide open and he covered it with his hands. He was still laughing and I was getting irritated.
“Jackie, am the CEO. If you want, you can ask Julie.” I remembered that Julie was the lady at the reception.
“But the company’s name is Lee holdings and you are Roy!”
I was totally confused.
“I know! That’s my name too. Sorry I didn’t tell you earlier.”
Roy as the CEO! You had to be kidding me! Just who was he! How many other surprises was I in for! It was all overwhelming.
