THE UNKNOWN FUTURE

CHAPTER 21

There was a knock on my office door. I looked up at the intruder and smiled. It was Julie.
“Hey Julie? Come in and  have a seat.”
She came and sat down opposite me. She wore a bright smile on her face.
“I was going home and I thought I could pass by your office.”
“ That’s so nice of you. I have been so occupied I didn’t know it's evening already. I have a lot of catching up to do.”
“ yeah! It can be so hectic sometimes. Take it slow but make sure you do your job well. The boss is a no-nonsense person. He is good but when it comes to work it's something else. Just do it to perfection. He believes in perfection.”
I laughed at her words. I had experienced that part of Roy and I knew what to expect.
“I have seen that part about him. By the way Julie, I have noticed how some of our colleagues freeze when they see him, you included. Why is that?” I was curious and I needed to know why they were scared of him.
“ Mr. Roy is so hard faced when it comes to work. He rarely smiles here. He doesn’t entertain nonsense when it comes to work. He is very goodhearted though. He won’t hesitate to help when one needs some help. He is so generous.”
“Hey baby! Time to go home.” Roy stormed into my office without knocking. His smile changed to anger when he noticed Julie. I looked at Julie and pitied her. She looked like someone who had seen a ghost. I could see fear in her eyes.
“I didn’t know I would find you here Julie. What are you doing here?” He asked not taking his hard gaze from her.
Julie tried speaking but she ended up stammering. I had to come to her rescue.
“ She came here for a chat. I asked her to.” I said without flinching and Julie looked at me with amazement. He looked at me with no show of emotions. It was clear that he was freaking mad.
“Oooh! I see. Are you done with the chatting?” He asked his eyes piercing into mine. I didn’t avert mine. I wouldn’t give him the pleasure. I was not like the other employees.
“Yes sir. I was on my way out. See you tomorrow Jackie.” She said rising up to leave.
“ Oooh! A minute Julie. Give me your number . I need to get in touch with you.” She looked at Roy as if seeking for approval but he just nodded with no expression on his face. I gave her a piece of paper and she wrote it down. She then left and Roy went to lock the door. He sat down staring at me for few minutes without saying anything.
“ what was that about Jackie?”
Shit! He was mad. Our relationship was not even old and he had started getting mad at me. How would I deal with the Roy at work?
“ It was just a chat. I need to make friends here and she is the only friendly person I have seen around. Is there any problem with that?”
I was getting irritated by his attitude.
“And this is the only place you can make friends? That will deter you from working.”
“Really Roy? And you calling me to your office when am working is not deterring me from working? Come on! I don’t see the big deal with talking to Julie.”
I was getting worked up. He was spoiling my evening. It was just a day and the drama was unfolding. I shut down the computer and took my handbag.
“ let’s go home Roy. I need to rest.”
He just shrugged and followed me outside. I locked the office and I was happy to find no one at the reception. We got to the car and I opened my own door. I wouldn’t let him dictate who I would make friends with. Maybe I needed to rethink my decision.
No one said a word to the other through out. We got to the house and I went straight to my room. I took a quick shower and went upstairs to the study. I needed to work at home or I would get sacked at that rate. I got so occupied with work that I hadn’t noticed Roy leaning on the door. He was looking at me with remorse in his eyes.
“ I was so occupied I didn’t know that you were there. Please come in.”
It was all weird. I didn’t know what I was supposed to say to him. He came towards me. He took my hand and pulled me to him for a hug. He held me tightly for a few minutes without saying anything. I felt my eyes clouding with tears. He kissed me on the forehead and occupied the seat I had been sitting on. He made me sit on his laps and made me face him. He caressed my face and sighed heavily.
“ I’m sorry for being a jackass. I shouldn’t have made a big deal out of you talking with Julie. She is a nice lady and I got you worked up for nothing. I guess I didn’t like that idea. You might open up to her and I don’t want people talking about you at work. I want to protect you.”
“ Come on baby! Do you think I would go parading my private life to anyone I meet? I just want a friend at work and nothing more. Is it too much to ask from you?”
“No baby! I'm okay with you being friends with her but take care of yourself for me. I don’t want her taking advantage of you and hurting you like Vickie.”
I laughed at his statement.
“Am not letting anyone take you away from me if that’s what you mean. You are mine.” I was looking at him straight in the eyes.
“And no one is taking me away from you. I'm here to stay. I meant something totally different. She might decide to spread gossip about you.”
“Hush! It’s okay baby! She won’t have anything to say about me.”
We got locked in a kiss. I sighed with relief. We were now good.
“You have not eaten. Let me bring you something to eat.”
“What about Jane and Braden? I got busy I didn’t know it was dinner time.”
“They are already asleep. She asked about you but I told her you were busy. Let’s go down and eat.”
“So you have not eaten?”
“No. I couldn’t eat without you on the table. This work can wait until tomorrow baby. We are working tomorrow remember.”
We went downstairs to the kitchen and I settled on the kitchen table as he warmed the food in the microwave. He set the food before me and sat opposite me. We finished eating and he helped me do the dishes. He swooped me up and took me upstairs and all I did was giggle. He lay me on the bed and smiled at me. He got into the bed and pulled me to him.
“ Do you know how much I love you baby?” He asked kissing me on the forehead.
“I do! And I love you so much.”
He came on top of me kissing me passionately. He tickled me and the next minute I was on top of him staring him into the eyes. We made love over and over again and I lay my head on his chest and sleep caught up with me.
