Authors note:
The first bit of writing here is a history book that Nae-un is reading. It's meant to be boring so PLEASE read past it I promise things get more interesting.
Enjoy my 2nd story.
Magic .... being able to preform acts that would ordinarily be impossible by the laws of science, that is the official definition of magic.
During the late 1800s and early 1900s various archeologists, explorers and even normal people discovered evidence of Magic-users all around the world.
The strange part about these discoveries was that even though these people lived in very different time periods, (ranging from 400 BC to as recent as the late 1600s) all these Magic-users wrote their notes on the subject in the same strange language. (Later discovered to be called Mardo script or simply Mardo)
These early Magic-users were always small reclusive groups that must have gone, generally unnoticed by the rest of society in their time. Many villages were discovered in secluded areas in the mountains, on small islands, in the woods, in deep ravines and even the desert. Historians found thousands of texts written in that strange language along with multiple records that explicitly spoke of Magic and the things it was used for within those small communities.
In 1905, German linguist Ernst Römmenger managed to successfully decrypt the code that all of the Magical texts were written in. By 1909 Römmenger and his team had translated all of the texts that had been uncovered. They found that each Magical community had their own form of Magic that was passed down through the generations. The texts were a selection of guides and instructions on how to properly preform Magic as well as research notes from experiments they had carried out to expand the range of uses for their power.
Each of these Magical communities would abruptly stop taking records of any kind for a span of 5 years before writing while we lived, we allowed ourselves to live fully. In doing so we held infinity as did many others. We struggle, we vanish but will emerge once again in those who come after us. They carry our torch, they carry the infinity we once held. in all records irrespective of its topic beforehand. After this message was written in the records the entire community would seemingly disappear entirely.
The mysterious behaviour was made even more baffling by the fact that every single Magical community would do exactly that. No matter what era, location or culture previously displayed by the community, they would all disappear after ceasing all records for 5 years and leaving the same message, without anything to suggest what had happened to them.
There had been no reports or signs of anyone processing genuine Magical abilities such as those described by the records from these bizarre villages. However in 1945 a strange phenomenon took place.
Children born near the locations of these strange villages were reported to have been acting unusual and causing unnatural things to take place. These strange occurrences matched the early stages of developing Magical abilities that had been described by the first Magic-users.
The phenomenon spread across the globe and by 1947 around 10% of all children were born with some kind of Magical aptitude. Thanks to the very detailed records and educational texts that the early Magic-users kept, scientists and historians were able to collaborate to develop methods of controlling Magical abilities, testing to see which forms of Magic each child would be best suited for along with a number of other things.
